Although plenty of publications have taken Porsche to task for their plentiful special editions of the 997 generation, it sounds like it has one serious package coming in form of the all-new 991. Yeah, yeah, it'll still look like a 911 but it sounds like its going to be way different than before.

That's because it will grow in length, sit lower to the ground all while being lighter.

Even better, the interior is said to mimic the Panamera's, which is a welcome addition since the 911's interior hasn't been all that and a bag of chips -- don't even bring up the red-headed stepchild 996. Upon the vehicle's launch it is said to feature your standard Carrera and the more powerful Carrera S. Powering the 991 will be a 3.4-liter flat six good for 350 horses while the "S" gets an uprated 3.8-liter six good for 400 ponies.

When it comes to transmissions, this is where things get interesting. Remember how we mentioned the possibility of a seven-speed manual? It's coming. Of course if you don't want to row through the gate though, you can select a PDK unit.

Look for the 2012 991 to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September.

The new 911 is code-named 991 and will be launched in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Compared to the 997 that it replaces, it is 2.5 inches longer and has a 4.0-inch longer wheelbase so that it can accommodate a hybrid system, presumably from the Panamera...
