You buy it only for poshness, badge, commanding presence, to impress others. Range Rovers, while still capable off-road, became massively heavy with their 2,7 tonnes of dead weight, heavier than any competition SUVs. This makes them slower, less nimble and guarantees horrid MPG. Since virtually no owner of a luxury SUV wants it to be a serious off-roader (because these cars play the role of luxury limos of XXI century), other makers outgun the RR. BTW, RR is still at the bottom of any reliability survey which actually makes them celebrity cars. If you have too much money and spare wheels, you can have the RR, otherwise not.

It's so weird... The big brother Range Rover is such a timeless beauty, but the Sport is just god damn ugly.

Same old Range. Looks haven't changed. What Land Rover needs to do is go back on the drawing board and come out with a different design...look at Jaguar. They're stepping up.

We own a 06 RR Sport HSE. My wife drives it mostly. At first I did hesitate about Land Rover, but they have proved to be Fantastic. We love the truck. Excellent road presence, great utility, awesome off road capability, NO real issues at all with reliability. Hate to burst some folks "bubble" but most folks don't know what they are talking about. I think some folks are a little "envious" and say negative things because they can't afford to buy a RR Sport. I drive a 06 LR3 HSE (great utility vehicle) and get 18 mpg combined which is as good or better than my previous 01 ML430 and 99 LX470!!! Land Rover Rocks! I seriously do recommend the vehicles ... I speak from experience.
