Land Rover celebrates 60 years, hints at production LRX

Hooray; Land Rover is celebrating its 60 year anniversary today under Tata Motors. Land Rover made its first market debut at the Amsterdam Motor Show on April 30, 1948 with the Defender currently known as the Series 1. That’s all nice and dandy, but we’re intersted in something new and something interesting that the Land Rover press release stated today.

We’ve heard many rumors from news sources that Land Rover will put the new LRX concept into production. Today, however, we have the first major hint from Land Rover themselves.

This is a nice new modern vehicle. The defender "should" be modernized soon.

I like LRX concept. But where it will be placed under or over LR2? And also i think Land Rover should remain a bit exclusive therfore they should not be making/having lots of models.

They already have five models of which 3 are added in the last 4-5 years. RR Sport, LR3 family model and LR2 entry sporty model. Together with core products like Range Rover and hardcore offroad model Defender. That's more than enough.

I just hope TATA don't ruin a popular and prestigeous nameplate.

This concept was in development prior to Tata purchasing LR.

And 2011 is too far off. Late 2009 as a 2010 model or early 2010 as a 2011 model should be the latest.

Jugnu, the models added in the last 3-5 years as you state have always been in the Land Rover family. The LR3 is the DIscovery which has been around since 1989. The Freelander has been around since 1996.... so the LR2 and LR3 have been around for more than 4-5 years. The only new product has been the Range Rover Sport.
