Letter to America (Jaguar related)
Last week, former banker Kenneth Leet announced the first results of his review of Ford assets: Aston Martin is for sale and Jaguar may be next. Andrew English drives the new supercharged XKR and reports back to Detroit
Dear Ken,
Hope you are settling in at Ford's HQ and have found Bill Ford's secret stash of Oreos (they're behind Henry's portrait in reception). Bill's mournful guitar can be a bit noisome at times, so get yourself a pair of earplugs from the River Rouge foundry.
We've been a bit concerned over here that Jaguar might be next on your list of sellable assets (and by the way, Ken, Jaguar is a three-syllable word). The suitors are certainly lining up, with JCB claiming it wouldn't want to take on Land Rover as well. This is strange, because 20 years ago, when Mrs Thatcher put it up for sale, JCB did want to buy Land Rover.

I think the XKR is the most beautiful sports car on the road today.

SOOO, you like Taurus'? Huh. Most beautiful, you got to be smoking some serious XKR exhaust fumes. Or do you work for a Jag dealer?

I think it looks stunning!
Since when was a Taurus a muscular and taut coupe?
Oh, since they had an oval grille, that's right!
Get over it IS3andME, its a great looking car.

IS3andME, I wish I worked for Jaguar. I just know a beautiful ride, when I see one. That is the best looking luxury sports car on the road today. I guess you will need to see one in the street. I'm sure you will also say the XKR is beautiful too. The XK series is also selling well.

Just ignore IS3andME. He does this in every Jaguar post. I'd like the see a Lexus, BMW or MB sports car that looks as good as this one. The Jaguar looks like an Aston mixed with a Jag (The grill badge on the normal XK actually comes from the classic Jaguar E-type so there is designer theft and the headlamps are totally original. The Taurus headlamps have two sharp edges and are shaped completely differently), the BMW 6 series looks like a Pontiac (Bangle worked for Pontiac and used some of the same lines for that car), Most Lexus models look like Toyotas. The hood and fenders on the XK only share designer themes with the old XK. The Taurus uses NONE of the lines on the hood or fenders. The reason the Taurus has an E-type grill is because it was designed by Ian Callum's brother Murray Callum who owned a Jaguar E-type. As you can see the front bumper, grill (minus the badge), fenders and hood are 100% Jaguar.

It's absolutely gorgeous...
Now, how much money did I save in the college fund? $90,000? That should work well...
