Lewis Hamilton’s $110 million Mclaren deal
Lewis Hamilton is on the verge of signing a $110 million deal to stay on at the McLaren team until the end of 2012. The German newspaper Bild claims the contract, representing a mammoth pay-rise over his debut salary, is worth $17m every year plus - oddly for a McLaren contract - the ability for his father Anthony to negotiate separate marketing arrangements.

Mercedes-Benz’s Norbert Haug confirmed: “We would like to cooperate with Lewis on a long-term basis. He is a great person and a great driver.” Hamilton’s father said they are yet to sign the deal. “Not yet,” he said, then referring to the upcoming FIA inspections at Woking. “There are still things to go through, such as whether the team is definitely in formula one.”

The news coincides with Hamilton telling reporters in the McLaren motor home that he has earned more respect from the team than his championship rival Fernando Alonso. “And since what’s gone on in the last few weeks they’ve realized who the real people are in the team and who they really should back,” the Briton, 22, added.

Lets just hope Lewis is as good when times get tough. His career has started off amazingly well, but he has been in pretty much the fastest car on the grid. It will be interesting to see how he copes if Mclarens form fades back to what it was over the past couple of years.

Personally my respect for him plummeted when he was questioned about the "incident" at Eau Rouge with Alonso, when he said "next time I'll put him in the wall, simple"... This is F1, not NASCAR, he still has a lot of growing up to do IMO. A lot of ability, but his arrogance is flourishing and his is starting to believe his own hype. He needs to avoid doing a "Villeneuve".

After Japan, I really believe he is the best driver out there, never mind the car. Rain is the great equalizer in this sport and he showed his true talents that weekend. With a bumpy car, he was still pulling ahead by a second a lap.

As far as the Eau Rouge incident, I cant begin to describe how immature Alonso was with his maneuvering. When it comes to people like that, they deserve to go in the wall sometimes. It seems to me that in that incident, Hamilton was the bigger man and Alonso needed the growing up.

It's easy to pull away in the rain when you're at the front! you have far better visibility than the cars having to follow each other.. and besides Kimi came from the back of the grid virtually to get on the podium... Kimi's drive was superior!

As for Eau Rouge.... F1 driers dont threaten to put each other in the wall. IMO if he sees it as acceptable to barge people out of the race and into the medical car then he deserves a few shattered knee bones himself! Maybe it was this attitude that lead him to think he could drive back onto the racing line at Fuji, even though Kubica was already there!

You're right, apparently they dont threaten like Hailton did, instead they take action like Alonso did when he pushed Hamilton off the track and just like Schumacher did so many times in the past. These races arent all roses and civility like you would make them seem.

Kimi was still falling behind Hamilton in lap times even with his gain on the people in front of him. There were plenty of laps where the people behind Hamilton (including Kimi) had clear visibility and were still falling behind.

Yeah, like Maclaren had never been competitive until this year. What an idiot..
BTW, where's Toyota on the grid, master techno thieves and all?

Couldn't agree more! McLaren was just unfortunate enough to get caught with their pants down... I also remember a certain team who offered a lot of engineers from top teams a lot of money to come and work for them! What was the name... Hmmm... I think it was something with a T... Hmm...

I think you are getting in way over your head here "admirer"... I think you forget that in 2005, McLaren was only a few points short of Renault in the constructors championship, last year they were third, even though it is pretty well known that they used most of last year preparing the cars for this year because of the rapidly changing regulations...

BTW:

"
"Yeah, like Maclaren had never been competitive until this year."

Yup! That's about right.
"

Are we forgetting (or completely oblivious to) the fact that McLaren have been one of the most succesfull teams ever? Actually they are the second most succesfull team throughout time? They've won 11 drivers championships... Until Ferraris winning streak from 2000 to 2004 McLaren was by far the most succesfull... Don't believe me (ofcause you don't)? try wiki'ing it!

BTW: If McLaren have stolen Ferrari technology, their engineers must obviously still be better than the Ferrari engineers since they are ahead... And that is pretty peculiar since it haven't worked for anybody else... Just look at toyota!

LOL... I didn't deny anything (try reading my above postings again)...

"No other F1 team has been convicted of industrial espionage but McLaren. Accept the facts."

Hmm... I think the two toyota engineers who are currently residing in an Italian prison after draging Ferrari data over to Toyota will disagree with you!

Don't worry sailor, Lexus Admirer is just another disillusioned Lexus Fan on AutoSpies.
I'm the first guy to admit that Ferrari has amazing racing heritage and history even though I prefer Maclaren. Some things you just can't deny.

Lexus Admirer truly reflects his and his brethren's intellect and maturity by denying that Maclaren have a great racing history to this day.

I would like to reply to your

"STFU about subjects you know nothing about"

comment but hearing your ignorance is embarassing enough for you that I won't kick a man when he's down...

BTW: I know it is not my buisness, but I can't help myself... Try ignoring the headline and read the actual article... Especially the last two lines of text!

Also, this one from wiki says it all:
"
2004 also saw Toyota being accused of industrial espionage in the case of stolen data files from Ferrari. This following a season where many Formula 1 fans commented on similarities of the Toyota TF104 to the Ferrari F2003-GA. The district attorney of Cologne, where Toyota F1 is based, led the investigation saying "It’s an immense amount of material. We’d need over 10 thousand pages to print everything." Toyota refused to send the data back to Italy because they did not want Ferrari to take advantage of their own data, which had been mixed in with Ferrari's

Good job "Sailor".

I salute you for having the patience of posting facts that should be common knowledge for any automobile enthusiast (which is obviously not "Lexus Admirer's" case).
It's a shame that there are people like him here that keep the real Auto Fans from having intelligent and coherant exchanges and debates.

Where does it say that O.J. killed his wife? Doesn't mean he didn't do it.
Please Lexus Admirer stop embarassing yourself, you obviously are incapable of rational discussion.
