Lexus Changes LF-A Name To LF-L To Generate More Hype?

A few weeks ago we heard about a possible name change for the Lexus LF-A but it was more of a total name change to indicate the cars power output and “super sports” moniker (SS550).

Holiday Auto go on the record to claim that the new Lexus supercar will be simply named “LF-L”.

We’re told by Holiday Auto (HA) that the last letter of LF-A will be changed to “L” to signify its appearance at Le Mans next year and to draw on its pre-production racing development. Also, there will be no numbers to signify the engines output or displacement as some sources were led to believe. We’re told that this information has been leaked ahead of the Tokyo Motor Show in October specifically to generate hype among long time followers of the LF-L.

Not convinced? With the amount of changes the LF-A/L has gone through in recent times it seems anything is possible in the lead up to October. As far as the engine and driveline are concerned there isn’t anything new, the LF-L is still expected to debut with the 4.8L “1LR-GEU” V10 with rear mounted transaxle and sequential six-speed gearbox.

Oh really invisble ?

I said in typical ricer fashion, where type-r decals are mandatory, even on a 1995 dodge neon.

Applying them on the LF-A could maybe bring some hype to a certain audience for whom the looks itself decide if the car is fast or not.

In the case of the LF-A, the car does not yet exists and toyota is already talking about changing the name to create "hype".

Lets hope that is has that performance. Honda tried and failed with the new NSX. It is a lot harder than most people think to run with the top dogs.

If you're talking performance, anything sport from Honda embarasses anything from the rest of the world especially those socalled "top dogs".

If Honda has failed with the new NSX(they haven't since car never went on sale), then all european hybrid has already failed before one even goes on sale. They should just give it up, it's hard to compete when the hybrid standard is set far too high by Toyota. No american in their right mind would pay 100K+ for an asian sportscar that'll embarass their european competition and no american in their right mind would over pay for inferior hybrid from Europe. It sucks, but that's how things work here.

I love how some people act as though they would be pissed if one of these cars appeared in their driveway free of charge.

Even if you aren't a Lexus fan, why hate on a car that looks to be pretty darn capable of true exotic-level performance.

OK...it's not a bad looking car and it appears that it will be capable of running with the big dogs. We'll have to wait and see on that one. I give credit to the Japanese manufacturers (Toyota in particular) for, at least, trying to develop their own design language here after so many years of cutting and pasting design elements from other cars onto their unoriginal creations.

The name doesn't really hype me up more about this car. The hype actually died off back in 88' when the car was announced. LOL actually I'm proud of Toyota. Even though right now they have only about 1 or 2 models Id say are nice,they started a goal,they made it and now they are about to finish it. Honda couldn't do it. So my hats off to you Toyota.

please...lexus spend 5 times what bmw does on marketing in the US....nearly $500MM per year. it takes a lot of dollars to convince people that their tarted up camry/4runner/prius etc. is more than just a toyota.

This thing has been in more races and hasn't even been released yet. Kinda like Volkswagen's supercar, that never made it into prodution, but broke several "production" car records.

LF-A didn't wow me, LF-L doesn't either. Luxury, Fast, Legendary?

My vote is for something like Lexus Supra-F if they really want to stick with the F name. If not, Lexus Supra would suffice. Maybe Lexus SS (for Super Supra. Sounds awkward but its a name that would stick in people's minds, especially if the numbers do what's claimed).

Atleast Toyota owns the car its renaming unlike Hyundai, which just copies the Toyota, then renames it.

Hyundai should look into development, they might realize then that development takes a bit longer than 'cut and paste'.

Then again, atleast Toyota/Lexus aren't ashamed to put their name on their cars unlike a certain Korean company which will remain nameless (ironically).

We arent ashamed to put our name on our cars. Its those in South Korea who rebadge their cars over there. That Equus like the Genesis will get Hyundai badges and a name change for US sale. The Genesis Grille will get a Hyundai badge on it when it gets refreshed. The Grille they are looking to use for the refresh is the Nuvis Grille.

The Genesis only has the name on the door sills. So unless you open the door, you don't know what it is. The H on the back and wheels are just trying to fool people into thinking its a new Honda. Even the new Genesis coupe hides its origins. Haven't seen any Genesis dealerships around, have you?

The Equus pics show that it's trying to pass itself off as a Toyota Crown Majesta with a RR hood ornament.

When Hyundai puts their name on these cars, I'll believe it.
