Lexus LS 600h L: Another Review

The article is from Motor Trend and has pretty much the same performance numbers as reported on Car and Driver. So there you have it, two different magazines, same encouraging stats. Anyone said something about lousy performance and fuel economy?

Hey, more tumbleweeds rolling by! LS haters sure are scarce all of a sudden.

So the numbers are no flukes. It's a great day to be dreaming about owning an LS600.

"Dropping a V12 would be too easy", music to my ears and my exact words from another forum.

Yup, Lexus has gone its own path and proven that they can outmatch the competition and use less oil in the process. The LS600h will actually outmileage an ML320CDI, that is very embarassing considering the LS is 150lbs porkier. I'd use the S420CDI but it's too dirty for N.America.

The first salvo has been fired, and the gauntlet dropped. Lexus is now daring the Germans to step up, if they can.

To be fair, the E320CDI puts up a good show at 26mpg observed from Edmunds, but then, it is 1400lbs lighter.

LexusAdmirer, thank you for posting this article, that should shut all the German nut nag off. What the article say again, Lexus LS600hl goes from 0-60 in 5.5 seconds right!...

What you German got to say about this? oh wait let say it for you, it bias? What bunch of freaking loser...when a Auto magazines saying something good about Lexus it bias. But when it do the same to German brand it fair? gave me a freakin break.

The matter of fact is that you this car is superb....it a beauty and present is just stunning. Can you say the say thing about the old fart BMW 7 Series, boring Audi A8 and the MB S-class? By the way the MB S-class is the worse one of them all. The rear light design on the MB S-class look like it has stripe of tape on it.

Gave a break...Lexus is going to take over this segment as well. Those who say other wise will be ignore.....

I've got a question for this $150 thousand hybrid, when the hybrid gets jacked up does the gas motor continue to operate?

Fanboy, hey! it okay that you haven't got use to liking the Lexus LS600hl yet. Even if you want to get one, it sold out for it first year production, so put your name on the waiting list bro!.

And even you don't want one, there are many others on the waiting list.

oh, it has ended up being a wonderful day in the automotive world. My day started at 4:30am (PST) this morning with that damn "Auto Motor und Sport" article slamming this miraculous automotive achievement. But it has ended at 11pm with one more praising article. I can go to bed in peace. (I'm sure when I wake up there will be 100 posts claiming bias, and I will have been de-boosted about 12 times, but until then all is well.)

As for German fanboys, again....

So Lexus feels they're being "creative" by not sticking a V-12 in the engine bay? Well that's all great and everything but most people looking at cars in this price range aren't paying much attention to the gas mileage.

I own a gas guzzling 650i that I leased out without paying any attention what so ever to the mpg's because I knew I wasn't leasing an economy car for Christ sake, I was leasing out a V-8 monster GT.

If I bought one of the V-12 sleds I'd feel & be in a class of my own...the V-12 luxury class which translates to EXCLUSIVITY.

You really believe people are leaving their Phantoms & Continentals for better gas mileage? That’s like saying John Travolta is dumping his jets in favor of sailing a boat overseas.

I knew it! There is no way the LS600HL could have such negative results. It was a bullshit German article that came directly from Lexus haters.

If it was such a bad vehicle, why would there be a huge waiting list for it?!

I remember that article, it was done with mostly highway driving (80+km/h with little braking). Everyone knows a diesel is supposed to outdo a gas engineon the highway).

Would you like to see the Popular Mechanics comparison where the Prius mops the floor with the TDI?

Great job on the LSh. I didn't expect it to have such poor numbers in later tests; of course, that was a good prediction. I would still buy a loaded S8 over it, but that's just me- it's sport/luxury vs. prestige-luxury. I can honestly understand why someone would buy an LS600hL now; it is a relative bargain, especially compared to the S600, and offers okay mileage as opposed to flat-out pathetic mileage in a full-size luxury car. What you get from the German sedans is more power, more speed and exclusive features; to most, though, 440hp might "just" be enough.
