Yes it is true! These words came from Mr.

Hirokazu Koga, general manager of the Lexus Development Center and the men behind the Lexus IS F. According to Koga, the new vehicle which will be powered by a 500+ hp engine, was delayed due to the hard financial times and the fuel price but now it seems the car is on the straight line. Regarding the LF-A Supercar, things don’t look so good and Lexus might delay its debut in the world of supercars. The decision to build the GS F was taken due to the great sales of the IS F: foe example last month the IS F outsold the Mercedes-Benz C63 and Bmw M3 Sedan. Unfortunately these are the only details available but as soon as we will find out something we will let you know!

What is the source for that sales claim? BMW and Mercedes publically release only overall 3-Series and C-Class sales. I have yet to see it broken down by model (C300, C350, C63 for example).

zorbreeze, I did read the article. I would like to know where Hirokazu Koga is getting his sales data from when Merc and BMW just release overall numbers. Just because he says the IS-F sedan outsells the M3 doesn't make it true.

good news. GS-F with over 500BHP. but will it be based on the current car or the upcoming probably in 2010 all new GS? In any case it's only a year away.

i imagine they'd probably base it off the current model since creating the upper echelon car of the model is usually meant for boosting sales at the end of the design cycle.

like it or not, Lexus's first attempt to fight M3 and C63 AMG has been pretty good. It's not the best in the class, but it certainly create something attention and widened their customer groups. NOW, NO ONE EXCEPT the lexus' first try would outsold M3 or C63, especially with the king GTR at that price range, but it is holding its ground very well. give Lexus 10 more years, the IS-F will be a formidable player.

afterall, when Toyota launched Lexus, Benz and Bmw had been marking cars for more than 70 years, yet lexus outsold both of them in U.S. year after year after year. conclusion: they must be doing something right.

besides, my limited experience told me Mercedes usually give you the most discount without much effort (somehow they always have some sort of marking supports going one, just last week they are offering 10k off the sticker for E class), while BMW, you know, no one buys them anyway. Lexus, however, doesn't give huge discounts.

Lexus is technically copying Jaguar (started the current crop of big performance sedans), Audi and Mercedes (S8 and S55 came soon after).

The diff. is that the reg. IS sells fairly well. The GS sells pretty bad compared to the class leaders so really, where is the incentive to buy a more powerful version of a subpar selling vehicle?

No, companies don't build expensive performance editions based on slow selling, less expensive ones. And your comment about Camries is idiotic, the E class and 5-series obliterate the GS year in, year out.

An M3 only costs $10k more than a 335i, which itself costs $50k, and they don't build M3s "hoping" people will buy a 3-series, the GS already has a 460 that sells even worse, so explain how one with 150hp more will help to trickle down sales??

IMHO, the GS-F will be referred to as "the answer to a question no one asked".

Don't delude yourself, any M3 you'd find on a dealer lot would cost around $65K. At the LEAST it would be about $10K more, unless you're comparing a fully loaded 335i sedan to a bare-bones M3 sedan.

S4, there are currently FIVE sitting at my dealership in Norwood MA, and only one of them cost over $65k, the other 4 avg. approx. $63k. And the 08' 335i's were anywhere from $49-57k, to me that's around $10k, so exactly what is "delusional" about that?

i try to avoid driving them as i find them unresponsive and removed from the road. but i have been in a GS, RX and LS recently.

when was the last time you drove a BMW M or mercedes AMG?

I am not sure where Lexus is going with this one. If you look at the demographics of Lexus owners, they generally (and I say generally) tend to be older, wealthier, individuals who favor luxury and convenience over (excessive) performance. For those with the funds who are primarily concerned with performance, and still want a mid to large sedan, I honestly do not believe this new GS-F can compete with the AMG's and M's of the world.

Infiniti is never mentioned when Lexus, Mercedes, and BMW are in the picture. Infiniti sales are nowhere near as great as lexus, and Lexus is the best selling luxury brand in the U.S. I think the GS-F and LS-F is what Lexus needs to attract younger buyers.

At the end, most people look at three main upscale brand: Merc, BWM, and Lexus. I still haven't seen any infinitis in rap vidoes or even on most TV shows or movies. But I do see a lot of Lexus, BMW and Merc. Go figure!!!!

GS is the original 4 door coupe. I think its a pretty hot car. They just made the GS3 an old mans car, compared to the older GS. They need to go back to the roots of the original GS1. That this was sick. In Japan it had the Supra engine, so it was literally a turbo booster away from like 800 horse power. And it handled pretty well too.

That was a sick car.

the ISF DID NOT outsell the M3.

it outsold the M3 sedan.

add M3 coupe and sedan and the M3 still outsold ISF (not to mention the M3 convertible).
