Ford’s luxury brand Lincoln has recently announced the 2016 model year for the MKS would be the last of the series, fueling speculation that Ford’s premium arm would go on and unveil a new flagship – as previewed by the Continental concept.

The Continental prototype, which also revived a glory name in the automaker’s history, has been unveiled during the 2015 edition of the New York International Auto Show and Ford officials announced the demise of the MKS only recently, as the executives were actually on site to celebrate the addition of the Ford Explorer to the production roster of the carmaker’s factory in Chicago. “Chicago Assembly Plant is vital to our global manufacturing footprint and will continue to manufacture the Ford Taurus, Ford Explorer and Police Interceptor vehicles even after we phase out production of the MKS in 2016,” Ford said in a statement. “We will continue to match production to demand.”
