Lincoln’s Future: MKS coming in 2008, plus a large crossover based on Ford Flex
Of the product development money Ford has budgeted for Lincoln and Mercury, Lincoln is definitely getting the larger share. Ford executives are finally admitting that Lincoln models look too much like their Ford siblings and that Lincoln needs to set itself apart with more distinctive design.

So what’s in the lineup besides the upcoming MKS sedan due out in 2008? Well a Lincoln variant of the Ford Flex crossover is slated for 2009 but a production version of the beautiful Lincoln MKR Concept is not looking good. We think Lincoln needs a new way to brand its vehicles. All these MKs seem to confuse a lot of buyers

It looks like Ford is trying to realy re-vamp the Lincoln brand. And yes, all Lincolns look too much like Fords and Mercurys. But the issue will just shift higher in the chain...where Lincolns will start to look like cheap Jags and Aston Martins. Ford has loads of issues when trying to give any of its brand some type of unique characteristics. They should probably develop a true luxury line-up and cut cost in their 2nd & 3rd generation of production. If you look at a lot of the more expensive luxury brands, they make their real profits after the 1st gen of production. Some don't make much profit at all...it's their halo effect on the rest of overall products that make the lavish spending worth it.

if cadillac can do it , with time, money and a strong effort lincoln can bounce back and compete with the big dogs. they need to focus and stop releasing ugly cars like the current MKZ ( i think it looks cheap) CTS any day over it. and the Navigator looks like garbage compared to the escalade. first generation navigator was hot, this needs lots of work.

Lincoln needs to do a lot more than just differentiate itself with better styling. Lincoln also needs to have a 300 plus h.p. DOHC V-8 combined with RWD and LSD. A good AWD system a la Audi should be an option. Lincoln has gone to the dogs recently with vehicles having inadequate rear leg room for example.
