M3/IS-F killer secretly on the way from INFINITI
I have heard that Infiniti is secretly waiting for IS-F and M3 to be release before revealing a secret model based on the G37 to steal Lexus and BMW thunder.

To ensure once and for all that Infiniti is taken more seriously as a performance company, they are planning a 3 stage knockout for the competition. Their strategy is very simple. Beat BMWs model per model for alot less money while offering more reliablity combined with exciting muscular designs. This move came from the minds of Toyota's head honcho. Rumor has it that the IS only existed to compensate for Infinti's failure to be a true BMW competitor. Now that Infiniti has finally found it's way back from the dead, it is a friendly reminder from Toyota of what Infiniti's original mission in life is. The fate of future IS remains clouded.

STAGE ONE:

By now y'all have already know G35 sedan is every bit as good if not better in driving dynamics than 328/335 sedan for ALOT less money. Mission accomplished.

STAGE TWO:

Y'all have also read Edmunds review of how the new G37 coupe trounces the 335 coupe. That's nothing new or shocking as I've always said G35 coupe was a much superior driving vehicle than the 3serie. It is a sports car after all and not a retuned luxury sedan/coupe. The current G35 will easily match or surpass the E46 M3 at the track while having less HP. As time goes by, more and more magazine tests will confirm Edmunds review to be spot on. I however think one magazine will give the nod to the 335. That mag is Car and Driver as those old farts are more into refinement. They will call it a performance shootout, but let the inferior performer win due to superior refinement.

STAGE THREE:

Since the GT-R has been designated to Nissan, Infiniti is left without a hallo car. This secret G will be that model. Rumor is that it will also sport a V8, Toyota has graciously agreed to finance a higher breathing performance oriented head built by Yamaha to be bolted onto the 4.5L used in the M45 in exchange for Nissan buying more hybrid technology. However displacement will been bumped up to 4.9Liter. The vehicle will be called the G50. It will be detuned to around 475hp and 380ft lb redlining close to 7500rpm and slowly crank up as competition closes in.

Suspension won't be that much different from G37coupe since Infiniti doesn't think M3 or IS-F suspension will be all that much better than their regular models. But due to the slightly heavier V8, some minor mods will be added to offset the weight difference. But unlike the IS-F, the new G has been designed from the getgo to except a V8(notice how the rear is shorter and the front longer), so vehicle balance and front end design is not compramised when the the bigger engine is dropped in.

The G50 will obviously come standard with wider wheels/tires, sport much more aggressive fender flares/bumpers and a lowered stance with stacked exhuast pipes(Toyotas request). But unlike the IS-F, G50 will have them stacked directly on top of each other rather than angled. Hood/side vents may also be needed.

G50 will be marketed to luxury buyers looking for some performance while GT-R will still be the uncompramised performance king that enthusiasts worldwide seek due to it's tunning potential.

Now I'm disheartened. It's only RICEMASTER.

<<That's nothing new or shocking as I've always said G35 coupe was a much superior driving vehicle than the 3serie.>>

Thats bullshit and you know it. What about how Car and Driver had the 328i beat the G35? Or Motor Trend had a 2006 *330i* beat the 2007 G35? Get out of here.

I'll believe Motor Trend, not Car and Driver. The latter is full of shit if you look at their breakdown chart. There's even a "Got to have it" factor and there's no price factor. Oh well, I got to have Porsche or Ferrari!

Car and Driver is simply biased towards the 328i. Motor Trend was probably a little bit better than Car and Driver in reviewing the 330i. In the end bias was there because both cars won based on "Magic Feel"

Well, that "magic feel" is what makes the 3 Series the best sports sedan! Without it, it would just be an "also-ran."

HAHA... so you are saying IS-F 5.0L v8 with a Yamaha head will have 500hp, 400lb.ft?

That's in fact very credible. While G35 is not as hardcore as M3 in terms of feel, The 350Z ran the Nurburgring in 8:26 compared to 8:22 of M3, 0.83% time difference, according to Horst Von Saurma, who regularly tested drive for German motor magazine since 97'.

Don't know who he is? Well, you better be!

However I don't buy the shit of G50 either. Those HP and torque number will simply conflict w/ GT-R in product positioning.

Did you just make this up yourself to sound interesting?! Just the simple fact that Infiniti is in the same category as Volvo and Saab makes it impossible for them to compete directly with the german cars or the IS-F! Just look at how sceptical some people were about the IS-F being able to compete with the M3 and RS4, how do you think people are going to react to a Nissan with a higher pricetag?! And why did you leave out the RS4?! That car is still a very real competitor!

Also, this car would be too close to the GT-R. They wouldn't risk that!

Let me entertain the notion of a G50 for a moment...it's certainly possible that a higher-performance racing variant could be produced of their entry luxury performance sedan, following Lexus' entry as the first Japanese luxury marque into the M/AMG etc arena.

I do have 2 questions though, regarding the "how" of the methodology...

1) Have they budgeted the funds to produce this vehicle? As good as the new G35/37 vehicles have been, they do not seem as much "all-new" but rather updated versions of the previous model. The styling, body is largely the same. The money this time around went into improving the interior. Limited budgeting...does that allow for a G50?

2) The suggestion that this idea came from Toyota's CEO. I know Nissan has licensed Toyota's HSD tech for its Altima, but why would Toyota want to help Nissan produce an "M3/IS-F killer"? Wouldn't that make the market case for the IS-F more crowded?

Still looking forward to the Nissan GT-R, possible Acura NSX, and likely Lexus LF-A...but that's a different (and expensive to develop and purchase) arena...

I wonder if RICEass has a crystal ball, or some kind of divinatory device... i particularly like the analysis about the IS being only there to compensate for infiniti... and the fact that toyota and nissan have teamed up against BMW... if anything this shows how much it would take to match or surpass BMW
When BMW discovered this plot by reading this article, they called Audi and decided to work together against the evil japanese.... hahahahahaha
WTF?

This article may require additional editing to 'clean up' some of the references to the carmakers. There seems to have been a clear focus, but some excitement and added facts may have made things a little 'fuzzy' when doing the actual write up. The following statement was confusing for many different reasons:

"...Rumor is that it will also sport a V8, Toyota has graciously agreed to finance a higher breathing performance oriented head built by Yamaha to be bolted onto the 4.5L used in the M45 in exchange for Nissan buying more hybrid technology."

Is Toyota funding a Yamaha-sourced engine technology for Nissan? Why?

(The 5 W's)

Who: Nissan
What: New G37, Rumored G50 (with 4.9L V8 having 475hp and 380lb-ft torque) using a Yamaha-sourced heads.
When: Pretty soon. With the confirmation of the GT-R, the Infinity version is not far away from public release.
Where: Not mentioned. Most-likely Japan. Definitely to be released in the US and UK, Europe to follow.
Why: A 3-Stage offensive on Lexus & BMW. World class performance, excellent refinement, class-leading design.

This is obviously not true. Why would Toyota help Nissan in exchange for the hybrid technology they already gave them? They already did Nissan the favour. As for them not competing with the BMW, what about Audi and Mercedes? They also compete with BMW. How would it help Toyota for Infiniti to have a superior car to the BMW? Stop trying to turn this site into a useless rumour mill.

this sounds very exciting, but how credible are the sources?
if anything that 4.9 liter engine should be used in the next Q45(or Q50). Infiniti really needs a flagship sedan more than ever to run with the BMW 7 series, Mercedes S-class, and Lexus LS460.
The article seems to allude to the fact that Toyota is in control of what Nissan is doing. I thought Nissan and Toyota are rivals, not in cooperation. Sure Toyota has money to gain by selling hybrids to Nissan, but why make Infiniti so good as to lose business with the IS??? Toyota obviously spent much money to redesign the IS and to develop the IS-F. It's hard to imagine them sacrificing their own product to help Infiniti be the performance leader.

Toyota has no connection to Nissan. The deal for Hybrid drive trains to Nissan/Ford were all made as Business decisions. Mostly as Toyota is the only manufacturer who is down to the 3rd generation of Hyrid tech and pretty much holds most of the IP.

In some ways Nissan dosent need 8cyclinder tech or any help for performance cars from anybody .. These are the guys who unleashed Godzilla (aka Skyline GTR 32/33/34).
