MINI admits Clubman door flaw
If you live in the UK and plan on running out to buy the new MINI Clubman, don’t run to the door just yet. MINI has openly admitted that the suicide door layout of the longer MINI may turn off interested buyers.
The new MINI Clubman’s second rear-hinged door on the right side of the car may be inconvenient to many British buyers, most of them who will have to enter or exit the car on the road instead of on the pavement.
“We accept the design of the Clubman might turn off some people, but...

I'm confused, why is this an issue? I don't understand the enter/exit issue on road/pavement.Is it something to do with right-hand sided driving?

UK-drive on left side of road, exit onto sidewalk on the left. Mini has it's door on the right, even in right had drive version meaning occupants in the UK have to exit into traffic (the right side), rather than the sidewalk(the left side).

Not if the left passenger gets out and they exit through the left front door (and not the right rear door).

Who's cares about the right side 'suicide' door.
I want to know what's the deal with that really, really strange dual opening back cargo door/hatch thing. Why didn't Mini just put a top-opening hatch on it like the regular mini. Its like a weird variation on the old Chevy Suburban.

I like it. The driver can always stand behind the back of the car and open the doors, even when parallel parked closely to the vehicle behind. Cant do that with a door that swings up!

maybe those rear doors are the solution if you dont wont to get out from the right door onto the road ;)

Oh, c'mon!
The car won't be used as a taxi! In any case the rear passenger can step out the car via front passenger door like in any 3dr hatch or coupe.
Even worse cases exist.
I used to have a Ford Fiesta (current Mk) which had tail gate that could be opened with ignition key only. So, every time a passenger wanted to put something in a boot, I had to stop the engine, leave the car, open the boot, load the cargo, enter the car, start the engine ... And same reversed action while unloading the boot.
That was not practical!
