MY NEW(ish) X5: Just a Few Shots
It was clear and light out, and the X5 was clean, so I thought I'd go out and get a few decent pics.

2008 BMW X5 4.8i
Deep Green Metallic
Beige Napa Leather - Bamboo Trim

I hope you guys like it. I know I do.

Note: go here to view the rest of the photos... unfortunately, I can't upload more than one, because I use a Mac.

Honestly, go there. It's worth it. The new photos (you'll be able to pick them out from the ones taken at the dealer) are pretty good.

Sweet - did you get the 7 seater package too? I'm just about to order one (likely same color combo) and I am on the fence about getting the extra seats. How did it handle the recent snow - do you need to get Blizzak's for winter or just use the regular tires?

I think you trade off a spare tire and some cargo space for the extra seats (my 328i Cab got a run-flat 'flat' and I was screwed - had to have my car flat bedded to a dealer, very annoying). I think it would really suck to be in the boonies skiing and have a tire problem.

Not like this.
The deepest snow I have ever seen is about 1 foot. And that didn't hand around for long, so seeing snow like this in a real situation is quite exciting for me.
Of course, in the countryside and Scotland etc it snows more (not this early though), but I'm assuming S4 lives in a developed area, and snow like that is practically unheard of bar in Aberdeen or some really northern place, on a moor, on a mountain.
I'm so glad we have the gulf stream...without it the UK would have weather like Canada.
And it's -3 C at midnight right now. During the day it's like 5-7. I don't want it to be colder.

Wow. Where i'm from, 1 foot of snow doesn't even get you out of going to school or work. It takes about 3 feet to really cause problems.

I've never had a snow day in my life. Although in less developed areas in the country they get them, because the roads aren't gritted properly.
If I had been alive in 1987 I would have had a hurricane day though...

TheSailorTheSailor - 12/20/2007 12:52:26 PMView My AgentSpace
+3 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
Rupert, that is because you live in GB! You got the gulf stream (no, not the air plane) to stop proper snow from falling! Try going to the other side of the North Sea... We get snow like that in Denmark, not that often, but it happens... And if you go to the northern parts of Scandinavia (i.e. like the area i'm in with this ship right now) it snows like that a lot of the time from late november to early march... It might be wonderful when you are celebrating christmas, but when you are trying to tow a drill rig into position and it messes up your radar it isn't any fun...

I really don't see how this is news! Just because he has an X5 doesn't make it newsworthy. I have a '06 Honda Civic modded do you want to see this? Probably not, because it seems everyone is so blinded by horsepower and bling that anything else is shit. Just because I don't have 300hp and a pedigree doesn't mean it's not a nice car. Please, if you want to start posting pictures of your vehicle go to an appropriate forum and post all the pictures you want.

The new X5 is one of the vehicles that is very talked about on this site. This article is newsworthy if for no other reason than we get to see proof that someone here actually owns one of the cars that we debate and pontificate about on this site.

Perhaps it is you who should go elsewhere. Don't be mad at the other guy because you drive a 4-cylinder econo-box chick car Civic. You own a car that no one is interested in (except for the budget-minded.)

This has been done before. There was a thread where people posted pictures of their personal vehicles. I agree that the site shouldn't be all about that, but automotive debate amongst enthusiasts is as much a part of autospies (now) as automotive news is.

I don't think that forum members posting pics of their vehicles AS NEWS ITEMS is really a direction this forum should be going.

If pictures are to be posted of individual POV units, it should be limited to the Profile Section.

It well negates the times when you actually post something relevant/positive, and leads one to conclude that you're little more than some Cyber-Arse who lives to be a Big Man on the internet because you're such an Insignificant One in Real Life.

Agent009,

If that's the direction (pseudo CarDomain) that you moderators want to take Autospies, then so be it, I just find that a site/forum entitled AutoSpies would be more inclined to provide a look into 'up-and-coming' vehicles/concepts, not ones that have long been available.

It is simply my opinion that this is a bad precedent to set, because I firmly belief that if another forum member submitted a thread showing little more than pics of his 2008 Suzuki SX4 sedan (or some other mundane transport), it would be promptly rejected, and that might well give the impression of bias.

There's enough chaos and animosity in these treads already why 'potentially' cause more?

DaHarderDaHarder - 12/20/2007 1:40:41 PM

Additionally,

Agent009, Why are you directing this solely at me?

BTW... I love it too. It drives like a dream, the interior is gorgeous and IMO it's the second best-looking SUV on the road, to the Range Rover.

One thing to avoid: park sensors, if you can. Unless you absolutely need a backup camera (which SUCKS on the X5) and voice activation (which is quite good), just get the stand-alone navigation system instead. The park sensors are extremely annoying when pulling into the garage, and they can never be fully turned off--only until the next time you shift into reverse.

Also, I've read on numerous occasions that the Sport rims make the X5 go through the winter like a toboggan.

The thing I am really interested in, is how you like that engine? That is exactly the same engine as the one in the 550i I'm considering... I think it is a fantastic engine, but I have only tried it on short test drives... Had any problems with it?

It's an excellent mill. It doesn't return the worst mileage imaginable (in this huge SUV, at least), and it's super-smooth in its nature as well as in its power delivery... like most luxury car V8s. It also has an enchanting voice when you push it, which makes me want to push it more. :-P

The new X5 is real nice . You know from my posts that I may not do a cartwheel over the i drive but the balance, performance, quality, space, ride , and value get this vehicle my thumbs up .

The snow makes for a great photo background too . I live in the warm climate ( 80's and 70's these days) and I did see the news clips of the snowfall in the Northeast but somehow capturing it alongside your car makes for a great post .

Autospies now has a vehicle review section, which I compared the XC90 and X5... objectively, some items are better on the XC90, some on the X5. Don't get me wrong, nothing drives like a BMW ;)

Posting pics of your wife's new car is a better way of promoting a sense of community, friendship on this site, than ranting and raving like some people here have started already.
Well done S4 and I think your house must be worth at least $1,000,000. My sister stays at Lake Forest, 20 miles north of Chicago, and strangely enough, she's thinking of getting an X5 too.
I would too, if it weren't for its 5200Lb curb weight and lack of a 6-speed stick.
That said, it's a handsome vehicle- so well done again.

They have some new wheels offered for the X5 that look fantastic - the style 215 wheels in black would look vicious on your car. Of course, OEM BMW wheels cost an arm and a leg....
