A Maryland legislative committee will hold a hearing Tuesday, Feb.

19, on a bill that would create a task force to study the issue and possibly impose a minimum noise level for vehicles in the state.

Hybrid cars are gaining popularity around the U.S. because they are eco-friendly, but their silent engines are generating criticism from advocates of the blind.

The testimony will be given to Maryland's Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee in support of a bill that would create a task force to recommend a minimum sound requirement for new vehicles sold and licensed in Maryland.
