This is why Japanese circuitry is #1. Lexus has top notch electronics, even better than the Germans and Italians. Germans do have the best engineering, but lack the reliability when it comes to circuitry like the Japs.

i.e. lexus = #1.

Japan has a shortage of software engineers so I suspect that Microsoft may have had a hand in this. I switched to Apple over a year ago because I got fed up with Microsoft crashes and security issues. In any event, I do not want cars to become overly computerized. Cars that are computerized should display a trouble code instead of just lighting up an idiot warning light -- the owner's manual should allow the owner to cross-reference the displayed trouble code to a description of likely problems.

Lexus competes with Acura, Infiniti, Volvo, Saab and low -end Jaguars topping $50K. Maser is more into top BMW & Merc category, these two bunch have no overlap (we are talking $85K to $140K here).

MSFT uses mostly Indian software engineers (not native Indian, people from India), I'd doubt they cause shortage of manpower in Japan. Apple develops most stuff in Singapore, Taiwan and mainland China alongside CA.

My experience is that the most reliable circuitry comes built on equipment designed and built in - surprise - Germany & Japan.

Old news but...
Wonder where all the Prius bashers are? Maserati has basically the same problem but I guess it's no fun unless you're taking shots at #1.

Firstly fan1234, Lexus are not number 1. Please return to reality.

Secondly, I have luckily not heard of this problem as my grandfather owns one. However, not to say Maserati don't still need to improve reliability a little. First week he had it the GPS tracker claimed the car was stolen, despite sitting on the drive so that had to be sorted as phone calls were being made to him so much telling him his car had gone. This an electronic fault, less serious than the one in the article though. And the most recent, the boot won't close properly, thus meaning it can't be driven. All this in one month of ownership straight from the factory. But as he says, most beautiful saloon in the world, he'll get over the problems.

Maser must have put lead in the circuits.
