As of November 2008 Ford reduced their stock in Mazda to 14.9% with provision for further reduction, followed a little later by executive changes reflecting Mazda's more "independent" position. Unlikely that informed staff inside Mazda would not know this!

Agreed with Shempy. The new 3 tries to look way to much like the RX-8 up front. The last gen had a great design, they should have upped it a little instead of giving it this oddly placed bulging shoulders that are then followed by flat lines to the back. It kind of reminds me of those 3 wheelers I see now. You know the motorcycles that have two wheels up front.

Well at least the Mazda Speed 3 will go fast, as for looks? I don't know people have been buying duck uggly cars for a century and even BMW survived the Bengal Era! How? I don't know, most people have no taste. Look at the furniture inside most houses...ICK!! It is horrifying how people live let alone what cars they buy that are uggly!

It seems like Mazda is fading out just like Mitsubishi and Suzuki. If Mazda could just add style to their list of priorities they may have a chance. Not everyone wants a happy faced car

Up until last year, before some idiot at Mazda's headquarters gave the go-a-head to the new "Smiley Face" design that everybody hates, I thought Mazda was emerging as a true contender and rival to Toyota and Honda. Mazda had great products like the Mazda 3 and MazdaSpeed 3 & 6, Miata, RX-8, CX-7 turbo, etc. Then all of the sudden, they put the hideous smiley front grill on all their cars and ruined all of the good feelings I had about Mazda emerging on its own. It's just as bad as the Acura's bird beak on all their cars. Who in the world would want to buy these ugly cars? I wouldn't. Would you?

Mazda has too much style, thats the problem. I mean unless they intend on being a niche Automaker. Mazda needs to offer the fuel efficient powertrains they offer overseas. Of course, they will have to get these motors to pass emissions tests, but then again Ford and Mazda have probabluy made a deal. "We at Ford will get the gas sippers, while you guys get the nice style."

I've given up on Ford so the less connection between Mazda and Ford, the better for me. I would love to see a small truck from Mazda with a strong 4-banger diesel.
