Mazda will take advantage of the 24 Hours of Le Mans this year to commemorate the MX-5 model’s 20th anniversary market entry. It was in February 10, 1989 when the Miata/MX-5 was released at the Chicago Auto Show as a new roadster, which saw global sales for ten years making it one of the most successful models of Mazda ever manufactured.
With 850,000 units sold up to the present, the model entered the Guinness Book of World Records. The initial production model was equipped with an all-wheel double wishbone independent suspension with disc-brakes at every corner. Power came from a 1.6-liter DOHC straight gasoline engine that produces 120bhp and a top torque of 136Nm. It is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and supported by a lightweight, all-steel body construction, enabling the car to sprint from standstill to 60mph in 9.4 seconds and on to a maximum speed of 120mph.
