Mazda Unwraps The Mazda3 Ahead Of Los Angeles Debut
Mazda Motor Corporation has confirmed that the sedan version of the all-new MAZDA3 (known as Mazda Axela in Japan), fully redesigned for the first time in five years, will be revealed at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 19, 2008.

The covers will be pulled off during Mazda's press conference at 12:20 p.m. (local time)  revealing the all-new MAZDA3, the latest evolution of Mazda's Zoom-Zoom spirit.

Every element of the all-new MAZDA3 has been developed for heightened exhilaration, with a more refined sporty ride, top-class fuel economy and quietness. Environmental and safety features, based on Mazda's long-term "Sustainable Zoom-Zoom" vision, aim to achieve a balance with fun-to-drive. Add in a new expressive face and Mazda's dynamic design elements, and the all-new MAZDA3 is everything a driver could ask for in a sports compact.

The brand-new version of Mazda's best-selling sports compact carries forward the heritage of Mazda and the pedigree of the current MAZDA3. Since its launch in 2003, the current MAZDA3 has sold approx. 1.8 million vehicles in over 100 countr ies and has won more than 90 global motoring awards to date. The MAZDA3 accounts for almost one in three Mazdas sold every year.

Following the world debut of the North American specification sedan with 2.0- and 2.5-liter engines at the show, the five-door hatchback version will be revealed in line with Mazda's global sales schedule.

Agree, it def does not look like a < $20k car. Styling is more like in the TSX class.

Definetly best-in-class design.

This is a great platform, but folks: (if you can get financing) get the Volvo S40 instead. It's way more car for the money.

How so? The Mazda is better to drive, more reliable, more fuel efficient and probably just as spacious.

Love the direction Mazda is taking. The RX8 began the design language followed by a good looking Mazda3. The CX line is awesome! Now the 6 and new 3 at the same time (the Miata is too whimpy) I could see myself in almost all model lines.

I saw this yesterday, its a good looking car. Not a huge fan of the rear end (its shape reminds me of a Chevy Cavalier for some reason) but once I see some more angles I could live with it. Again, its nice but I think I like the new 6 more than this one.

You are totally correct. The rear end is nasty. And yes it DOES resemble a late 1990s or early 2000s Cavalier.

And Memo to Mazda: Altezza taillights are tacky.

I wanna see the hatch. BTW, wheres that diesel tech mazda recently developed? Put that in the 3hatch and you've found a buyer.

Once again Mazda trumps the 6 with the 3. The 3 will be heralded by the automotive press as best in class, as it should. The new 6 is still playing catch up to the Accord, Camry, Altima and dare I say Malibu. The 6 is 95% there but needed to be better by a wide margin over its competitors to steal the hearts of prospective buyers.

Is widely accepted in the enthusiast world that the Mazda 6 is a much better car than Accord and Camry. If it would not be for the repeat Toyota and Honda customers who would not even take a look at anything else on the market, Mazda 6 would outsold both of them.

It looks decent for Mazda, the top half of the car looks very "Nissan-esque" (Sentra/Altima)to me!

I love the way it looks, but I felt the same way when the new 6 was first released, and it has gotten very underwhelming reviews. They say it's a nice car, but it has lost its edge as an affordable sports sedan. I hope the same thing doesn't happen to the 3.
