Mazda to redesign core models in 2 years, plus a new SUV in the works
Mazda is hoping that a new generation of existing models and a new SUV/crossover model will help its sales increase to 1.6 million in 4 years. Robert Graziano, Vice President of Marketing in China, told Automotive News that Mazda will redesign its core models in the next two years including the Mazda3, Mazda6 and the Mazda 2 which just made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

Mazda is saying that a “new core model” is in the works, which insiders are saying will be a new SUV/crossover based on the Mazda3 and the Mazda6.

The company is also looking to introduce an E85 fuel compatible flex-fuel engine in northern Europe by 2009 and a new diesel for Japan and the United States by 2010.

Wow that's the GS taillamps on CX-9.

JUGNU,

I've thought the same thing about the CX-9. It DOES resemble many Lexus GS styling cues. Take a look at the front. The headlights on the CX-9 are exactly what the GS's would look like without the smaller inner-lights. The taillights have an extremely similar shape as well, with a slight difference within the middle of them.

The CX-7 and CX-9 look especially great, and they're probably the best-looking crossovers for under $40K.

But I do still think they should've been named CX-5 and CX-7 instead. When people hear "CX-7," they'll think of a seven-seater, but it's a five seater. When people hear "CX-9," I don't know what they'll think of, but it's a seven seater. Get what I mean?
