Mazda2 beats Mercedes and Ford for WCOTY
Mazda’s diminutive Mazda2 (Demio) hatch has taken out the annual World Car of the Year (WCOTY) awards in New York, beating 38 other cars for the top spot including the Ford Mondeo and Mercedes-Benz C-Class in the top three.

The Mazda2 was nominated by 47 World Car jurors from 24 countries and was picked because of its appealing looks and high levels of standard equipment for the price.

The new C is a fantastic car! Far better than American magazines (the only ones that seem to bash it) give it credit. It may not have won WCOTY but it's certainly no loser.

Anytime I give heat to American magazines on this issue, I get deboosted! Surely others wonder why it's only Motor trend, C&D and Automobile that have plenty of bad things to say about this car when most of the world loves it? How come they hate it so much?

The C-Class is a totally different category (being more than twice the price of the Mazda2) The Mazda is also much more economical which is the industry trend. I'll take a c-class if given a choice between the two. It certainly isnt a loser, at all...

Threepoint, they hate it because it's not the BMW 3-series.

Mazda does it again. There is really no better value car on the market that is still exciting to drive.

This car would do very well here. Forget the Yaris!

"I'll take a c-class if given a choice between the two."

Yes I did. Read: "The C-Class is a totally different category (being more than twice the price of the Mazda2)" The Mazda with its economical price caters to a more global audience, ei: developing nations such as India and China.

As long as Mazda keeps paying attention to the reliability (and improving it), Mazda will do well in US. Service is another area Mazda needs to improve in USA as well. A lot of Mazda dealers reside with Ford. Technicians are less knowledgeable about Mazda vehicles. This creates delay in fixing vehicles properly the 1st time.

Other than those, MAZDA has good design, affordable pricing, and vehicles that actually are fun to drive for those prices. Even Bob Lutz praised Mazda for their consist designs in MAZDA lineup.

Mazda 2 is a car I would give a serious look too. Trade in my Matrix and still have a payment less than what I do now for a fully loaded 2. Can't wait till they finally bring it here.
