Mercedes-Benz C and E-Class hybrids coming by 2011
The 28 mpg 2010 Mercedes-Benz S 400 BlueHYBRID will come to the U.S. in Sept. 2009 - but that isn’t the only hybrid the German automaker has in the pipeline for the U.S.

Following the S-Class hybrid, Mercedes-Benz will introduce an E-Class hybrid when the next-generation model arrives in 2010. That will be followed by a C-Class hybrid when the model refreshed in early 2011. In 2012, Daimler will start building between 12,000 and 15,000 electric Smart ForTwos annually. Zetsche said some of those will make it over to the U.S.

The trickle-down strategy is backwards for the introduction of hybrids. Oh well, at least they will have plenty of time to perfect the system as the volumes scale up with the C.

I wonder if the S400 Hybrid MB will be sending to the US next year will be the long-wheelbase version or the short wheelbase (which so far hasn't been offered in the W221 in the US market).

Perhaps some of the Lexus owners may convert back to a German brand after Mercedes offer Hybrids. Diesels & Hybrids together will dominate most of Europe's market.
