Mercedes-Benz C-class Sportcoupe to make debut at Frankfurt Auto Show
Mercedes-Benz is currently developing a new version of the C-Class Sportcoupe, a car that’s rumored to make its world debut at September’s Frankfurt Auto Show. Several prototypes were spotted undergoing cold weather testing in Sweden recently, which revealed that the new model will share the same basic shape as the outgoing version.

These latest renderings give a good indication as to what the car’s final styling will look like. Designers have followed the theme set by the new C-class sedan, with the upcoming Sportcoupe picking up a high-waistline, wedged profile, and a chiseled front end with angular headlights. Also, expect to see a tall tailgate with a short, squared off rear.

Like the current model, the new Sportcoupe range will feature several different four-cylinder variants but may include new V6 petrol and diesel versions as well. The range-topper will be powered by Mercedes’ 272hp 3.5L V6, but we wouldn’t be surprised if a brand new AMG version is released.

Late last year, reports surfaced that Mercedes would use its underutilized Juiz de Fora plant in Brazil to build the new Sportcoupe, and there was even talk that it could be based on the previous generation C-class platform. We’ll have to wait until September’s Frankfurt show to see how it all pans out.

You are WRONG. This car will be positioned right around the sedan in price. ABOUT $20K below the CLK

Now the question is will they bring it to the US?

Or even better do you think they should build a proper coupe to fight the 3 series coupe? And what would that do to the CLK sales? Given the fact that the CLK is definitely a bigger car than the 3 Coupe and is priced higher. Would a C Class coupe cannabalize CLK Sales?

The CLK is only three inches longer than the 3 Series coupe, according to Edmunds.com. That puts the A5 squarely in between the two, which also means that the three are pretty much direct competitors.

They better not mess it up... and considering how great their recent products are (sans the R), they probably won't.

This will be a small and cramped economy car, just like the last one. The CLK's sales wont really be affected by this.

I don't care what you guys say. This car will surely be better than that useless 2 door compressor. I think that car was pointless and very useless. This coupe will attract many compact lovers.

I doubt it will affect the sales from the CLK range. The CLK is beautiful (esp.clk63). I don't think the CLK is a direct competitor to the 3 series but more of a competitor to the A5 due to overall size. But when you look at the grand scale the closest competition from BMW is the 3 series for the CLK. I've seen comparisons between the CLK and the 645Ci when the 6 was introduced. I don't know why but they were probably comparing the power/weight/options. If I remember correctly the CLK beat the 645ci in that particular comparison.

Anyways, from front view it looks good. Now from the side view it should be a big longer. The overall car length should be longer by a few more inches. Now I think its a great chance for MB to finally have a true 3 series coupe contender.

I always felt as though this car was missing something. Oh yes a back end. They really need to take note of BMW,Infiniti, and Audi with their coupes. A C-class coupe would sell if it was not a hatchback looking car. Remember they pulled the coupe here due to lack of sales in the past.

I agree with everyone who is asking what Merecedes is going to do with the CLK then. The CLK was always considered the coupe/convertible of the C-class and competed with the 3-series coupe/convertible despite being more expensive. Now they'll have a car with very similar size and looks, the same engines, priced not far apart. How could one NOT cannibalize the other? And to make it sillier you have these two bunched up on each other but after that there's a huge $40k chasm between the CLK and the CL where they have nothing competitive at all to go up against the 650i, XK, 911, etc. They need to realign their models.

Is this a joke? You forgot the legend known as the SL-Class, which directly competes with the 6-Series, XK and 911.

The 2008 C-class is on my shopping list. I really only need 2 doors as my kids are all grown up but I'll likely only consider the 4-door sedan because I use the rear seats for other than passengers and it's handy to have access to the rear via a set of rear doors. Maybe I'm just putting practicality before art.

Why don't you just buy an A5/S5 and get both?

Looks good as all Benzes do. Will kill the ugly and lame 1-Series and A3.

A3 is 10X better than 1 Series. I love BMW and Audi, but the two hatches shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath.

Someone has been looking at Lexus too much. I miss the stately and elegant Mercedes Benz.
