he all-new Mercedes-Benz GLA compact SUV, seen in the spy photos testing is based on the new front and four-wheel drive MFA platform that is also being used for the new A- and B-Class.
The GLA became official, when at the start of production of the new A-class at Mercedes’ plant in Rastatt, Germany, the automaker said the factory would also be making a crossover.
As you can see in the photos, the prototype takes quite a few styling cues from the recently released A-Class. If you enlarge the photos however, you can see a wider and higher grille with two lines. Also new are the roof railings and the side window line is new.
According to GMotors, who also captured the spy photos, the GLA will span both front and four-wheel drive models and a similar engine line up to the new A-Class.
The Mercedes GLA will be in direct competition with the BMW X1, which is currently Europe’s best selling luxury crossover.
