Mercedes-Benz Introduces R 320 BlueTEC, ML 320 BlueTEC and GL 320 BlueTEC to U.S. Market
Mercedes-Benz will start offering the R, ML and GL 320 BlueTEC in the U.S., the world’s first three diesel SUVs which not only meet the particularly demanding criteria of the American Bin 5 standard, but also have the potential to fulfill the stringent EU6 standard.

In March, Mercedes-Benz has become the world's first car producer to receive a certificate for licensing BlueTEC SUVs in all 50 US states.

Equipped with innovative BlueTEC technology, which was introduced for the first time in a passenger car in the USA, the high-tech diesel engines from Mercedes-Benz meet the world’s toughest exhaust emission limits. While AdBlue injection makes the new M 320 BlueTEC, R 320 BlueTEC and GL 320 BlueTEC the world’s cleanest diesel SUVs.

The muscular V6 diesel engine powering the new BlueTEC models in the GL, M and R-Class shows that a low fuel consumption and very low emissions are also possible for large SUVs. It has an output of 155 kW/211 hp and develops a torque of 540 Nm. Fuel economy is outstanding: the GL 320 BlueTEC, for example, consumes just 9.5 liters of diesel fuel per 100 kilometers (25 mpg). This represents an advantage of around 20 to 40 percent versus a comparable petrol model, and easily makes the Mercedes-Benz GL 320 BlueTEC the most economical full-size SUV in the USA.

25MPG? Wow! From a GL! Massive torque and high fuel economy. That almost as good as an Escape Hybrid which is very small compared to it's size. I wish diesel wasn't expensive in the US.

MichaelTaylor the troll strikes again.

FYI the RX400H does what 27MPG? Considering the size of the GL (if you've ever seen one in person), it dwarfs the girly figure of an RX. Different class of car my friend. Quit thinking Lexus can compare to any car in this planet.

Do you really need 4X4 on the streets? I live in Vancouver where we get some snow annually but it's Calgary or Edmonton where it gets to real cold temperatures and the snow's up to your waist. If you live in North and West Vancouver where you're on hilly terrain then sure but on the average it's not even necessary.

Even if it's needed bluetec that burns less fuel could do the job regardless.

i am quite surprised you didn't know that before you bought your Merc. servicing any german brand at dealer is very expensive, including VWs.

on the other hand, BMW's ultimate serive is really great if you: 1. lease the vehicle, 2 drive less than 12k mile a year.

however, i thought you would get the first/second service free from the dealer.

That is not the price of an oil change! The price is for an oil change plus full over inspection which takes more than an hour. The price for just an oil change is only $100 (if that).

Plus I doubt you actually own an GL320CDI since when these were presented to the market diesel was not $2.30/gal

Haters,

Your story makes no sense. First, You paid 80K for your GL320CDI??? Second The price is about $260 for the "Service A". Consider the looooong intervals MB need service in compared to other brands like lets say Honda, it isnt bad AT ALL. You can talk all you want and fool other idiots but MBenz owners like myself will know who the real HATER is

Get a life,

Just to Add. My cousin has a Lexus GX470 and I have seen what Lexus charges. Its equal to if not more than Mercedes-Benz.

People that cant afford premium service shouldnt be driving premium cars.

You should have talked to them about this prior to signing the papers. Sometimes you could get a lot of free stuff from the dealership as incentives to make the purchase.

My customer service rating for Mercedes in my city is better than that of Lexus and Lexus is among the best here as it is. All expected with premium brands like this.

Haters: as with most items, the cost of ownership is relative to the cost of the item purchased. Sounds like you did not do your research on service costs before signing the dotted line. You are expecting a $25 oil change on a Mercedes Benz - good luck finding that even at Jiffy Lube!

Good for MB for finally offering Bluetec on SUVs instead of skimping with the CDI.

I`d wait on the the mileage figures since the EPA rates the 320 CDI 18_24_20mpg and low sulphur diesel has a bit weaker mileage. The Tahoe hybrid 4WD is 20_20_20mpg.

Anyhow, someone who owns a real SUV should be able to crawl under their vehicle and do an oil change in 20min. Just my opinion.

Is it just me...or are clean diesel engines considerably less fuel efficient than the good old-fashioned ones with black smoke flowing from their tailpipes?

To Haters,

1. You are exaggerating the price of your car. There's not a GL320 that can get to 80 grand.

2. You are exaggerating the price of your second service. It's about half of that.

3. You are failing to mention that you only have to service that vehicle once per calendar year or every 10,000 miles!

Diesotto,

I am on my fourth consecutive Mercedes and am well aware of the costs and service intervals.

See my post above, you hit the nail on the head, and saw right past him. This guy is a troll, a joke, and a hater like his name suggests.

I have to deal with the naysayers all the time. I sell these cars and have to overcome these exaggerations often. Everybody is always looking to bring down the king of the hill.

Admittedly so, Merc has had their fair share of issues in the past, but with the change of topline management, our products are back in a big way.

A little insider information for everybody...all of the above Bluetec models mentioned in this post will have runflat tires. The spare will be sacrificed for the AdBlue tank.

I'm at a medium sized dealer in Texas. We do about 65-80 per month and we've had great sales with our diesels overall. Our suv's have slowed but as that has happened our E320 sales have increased even more.

I had a customer visit me this morning and when I took his car back to get it washed he was averaging 39.5 mpg. The posted mileage rating on all of our diesels is off about 20% across the board.

By the way Haters, Your local MB dealer does offer service plans at a discount and that insualate you from rising prices. You should look into it. Unlike BMW, which offers a very good service plan I'll admit, MB lets you customize the time and mileage of the plan.

Just a suggestion

If they are charging that much then go somewhere else.
At our dealership "A" services are $260+tax and "B" services are $430+tax. And again, it's not just miles it's also time (10k miles OR once a year).
