Mercedes-Benz SL63 first details
Earlier today we posted information about the European launch of Mercedes’ facelifted SL convertible and now we have all the details for the U.S. market. Americans will once again miss out on the V6 models, including the new entry-level SL280, and instead get updated versions of the SL550 V8 and SL600 V12 models. The flagship SL65 from AMG will also be on offer and is expected to be joined further down the track by a new SL63 (pictured) fitted with the tuner’s hand-built 6.3L V8.

Power levels are unchanged for the big-cube models but both engines get a slight bump in fuel economy. The 5.5L V8 still musters a healthy 388hp while the V12 in the SL600 dishes out 517hp thanks to its pair of turbos. The SL63, meanwhile, will get the venerable 525hp 6.3L V8 engine and the AMG speedshift seven-speed transmission. Other features include a unique front bonnet, custom bodykit, darkened bi-xenon headlamps and taillights, and 19in light-alloy wheels in a new triple-spoke design.

I must admit, it's starting to grow on me. Aspecially this AMG model.

Honestly, I think the SL is still a beautiful car. Admittedly, it has it flaws i.e. interesting headlights, could be better cohesion between the rear and front, but it's still a very nice car. For some reason, whatever ugliness I found in the regular car is made up for by the awesome AMG package. This looks like a real AMG now - the regular cars w/ AMG were looking too similar, at least until the arrival of the C63.

ahhh theres too many, im actually starting to get slightly confused, so we have SL550 easy enough, then SL63, then SL65, then SL600. do they really need that many????

absolutely.

each one has a slightly different flavor...two models focus on sport, two on luxury, lots of interior and exterior appearance choices, lots of option choices, etc.

when you're spending over $100,000 for a car, you want one that reflects your taste.

you don't want a replica of 5 of your neighbors' cars ala lexus.

There's also an SL280 and SL350 outside the U.S. :)

For anyone that doesn't like this car all I can say is you're slow.

Open your eyes and throw away your ToyLex catalogs and learn what a beautiful car the new SL is.

I'm EL34 and I'm ready to take your questions.

i figured everyone would calm down. when viewed in person, most of us will like it even more.

i think they need to reintroduce the SLC, the coupe version of the SL.
