Mercedes-Benz SL65 Black Series Video - This is One BAD to the BONE Car
Here is the Mercedes-Benz promotional video for the new Mercedes-Benz SL65 Black Series.  I don't care whether you like or hate Mercedes, on this one Mercedes has hit one out of the park both in terms of style and performance.  Too bad only about 200 of us will ever get to enjoy this beast, sadly I am not one of the lucky ones so the video will have to suffice for now.

A special thanks to reader 007Vehispy1 for the tip on the video and click through for the full article.

That was rather boring. The car looks mean though. But you'd think the big V12 would sound better. It sounds subdued. Maybe it's the video. It's unfortunate that it takes a 670Hp V12 to get it from 0-60 in 4 seconds. Must have something to do with the 2 tonnes of weight...

Not worth the $200k price tag unless your some spoiled Saudi prince.

It will do 60 in 3.6 at most. I guess you dont know anything about how conservative the Germans are with their 0-60 times.

0-60 is something the Americans care about. Germans like BMW and Mercedes don't really care about that, especially BMW, you know.

I'm guessing you just pulled 3.6 out your butt. I will revise my statement:

"It's unfortunate that it takes a 670Hp V12 to get it from 0-60 in 3.6 seconds. Must have something to do with the 2 tonnes of weight..."

Happy?

Boring? what did u want? cheap japanese techno music and a riced up civic for excitement?

Yeah Japanese techno and honda civic. That's such a relevant insult. Good try at being funny.

Yes this commercial was subdued. Did you get excited watching it? You're easy to please.

SoSnooty, it's actually a $300k price tag, not $200k. But I imagine if you didn't think it was worth $200k, this news probably doesn't help.

with 738lb/ft of torque on tap, the 0-60 time is limited by traction.

It is a good car and I love it, but I still can't stop thinking about the fact that the car looks more like a toy car rather than a 300,000 dollar car.

This car is so ugly. What a poorly executed design. The last model, while still a monster, looked classy and benz-like. This looks silly and boy racer.

I'll take an SL63 please. Keep the change.

So this is actually faster than the flagship SLR 722 for half the price? I guess Lindsy Lohan will get one just so that she got bragging rights over Paris Hilton.

How come they never show this car with the top down? It's a roadster isn't it or only comes in hardtop?

HeyhuubHeyhuub - 7/14/2008 3:17:52 AM

The Black Series has a fixed roof. So no roadster.

+1 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
^Because It's a fixed roof you dolt. If you have been following the info on here and on other sites for the past 1 year, you would have known that.

And you would Also know that Benz is breeding a type of competition between AMG and Mclaren. Whereas AMG will be producing a hyper car and so will MClaren (not the SLR speedster)

good to see they removed the ugly side vents for the ultimate SL. Till now i have seen 3 new SLs on the roads, 2 were SL65s and one SL63, They looked nice but not as stunning and classic as the pre-facelifted model(round healdights).
Overall SL65 Black series looks great but still, to me Lamborghini LP560-4 or F430 are more desirable and better lookers.

This car is more exclusive than a lambo is ferrari. It doesnt mean its better just more exclusive due to the number that will be built (200 for those who didnt read)

I like that part about 'whether you love or hate m-b'. Count me in as one who hates them, and this ugly pig, like every other amg and black series, is no exception. Why anyone would pick this joke over a REAL exotic is beyond me. Power is nothing without control; I know without even looking or reading that in typical amg fashion, this porker is all go and no control.

well you should read a little more, because the guys at AMG know what they are doing. It's the nature of large displacement front engine cars to get a little tail-happy...even when you stomp on the throttle in a 599gtb, you'll kick the tail out. That doesn't mean these cars can't handle. You should watch the video. It doesn't look like this "pig" is having any trouble negotiating the twisties.

tattedtwice lol , this car does have some good control just look in the video , look how wide and how low the car is , and for the retards that are talking about 0-60 times , lol at you, it does 0-120 in low 10 sec and that is faster than a scuderia , even the new lp 560-4 is only as fast as regular sl65 , traps about 125 mph and does 0-120 in high 12's 13's. it has a lot of power and 24% less drivetrain loss than a regular sl65 , means more power to the wheels, cant wait to see how it will do against the zr1, both , on the track , and in straights. Design wise it's a bit overdone , but sure in person it's going to look mean as hell , they should have showed us black pictures of the car i dont understan why would they show us such a mean car in such a gay shit looking color.

MB says the SL65 AMG Black will lap the Ring in 7:42. So, in regards to how well it does versus the ZR1, it's slower. I'd still rather have one of these though, because I don't care that it's not as fast around the Ring. But then for $300k I'd rather have a Ferrari or Aston Martin.

I agree with you completely. LP560/F430 are my choices if I had the money.

Amazingbimmer would, however, probably hate to drive an LP560 saying its a rebadged Audi.

What will the pricing of this car be compared to the LP560?

Not challenging your statement, just genuinely wondering.

nsmatt,

that's a good question and I was wondering that myself. Considering your run-of-the-mill SL65 is carrying a $191,000 price tag, I would guess the BS with all the track-style goodies and 65 more hp would be close to $250-275k. If that's the case, you're in quite a league of automobiles and I think I'd have a few other cars atop my list in that price range (F430, LP560). OR, buy a GT2 and a regular old SL550 with the change!

This car most probably is the the replacement of the CLK DTM, that was also limited to 200 units, 100 coupe and 100 convertible. Very exclusive i agree.

but they didn't sell very well here in Middle East(one of the biggest market of highest end cars).

I have seen 3 CLK DTMs in diffrent showrooms and they remained there for like 6 months, didn't sell. Compare to F430s and Gallardos which in the same time, i think those showrooms sold atleast 50 units of each.

so when i said F430 and Gallardo are much more desirable i am not alone.
but anyway SL65 Black series is stunning. No way lesser than Ferrari or Lamborghini. i love it.

You're the "wannabe". Thinking your Toyota Camry is an LS. You have no respect for companies that paved the way for a premium Toyota. I don't know if rebadging cars are innovative but I bet you drive your Camry like it's an ES. Every luxury brand wants to be Mercedes, the marquee name in today's luxury market.

You know nothing MT, you're still a troll.

They LFA is not in the same class MT, they are two totally different cars with 2 different purposes. The sc430 would be comparable to a regular sl, but they don't have a performance version to match the slowest sl, let alone a black series. And I can tell you that with 738lb/ft torque and more hp than the LF-A it would eat the LF-a on a straightaway.

Can't wait for this car. We're not trying to compete with any other manufacturer supercar. We don't care about 'Ring' lap times. We're just putting out a Bada$$ car to let everybody know who's boss! If you can afford it we'll accept your money, but if not--who cares!

Sometimes it's not about the figures. It's about the soul of a car and how it makes you feel. As quick as this is compared to the SLR it still is no SLR. While this SL65 black series is in my opinion very bold and definitely makes a statement on the road it still can't be compared to an SLR.

It's like saying a SC430 which can do 3.8 or quicker is just as good as a SLR or Carrera GT for that matter. Not happening.

this car is total overkill....its built for rich fucks who dont know anything about cars....most of that torque is wasted through lighting up the tires...GTRs and F430s can outlap and outrun this car cause theyre better engineered and purpose-built with just enough power to get the job done...when will you ever put 738 lbs of torque to good use other than shredding your tires? the car does look great though but anyone who sees this will identify it as an SL and it loses its exclusivity factor even if there are only a few hundred coming our way
