Daimler AG today reported sales for the Mercedes-Benz Cars division (Mercedes-Benz and smart
combined) of 20,927 units in the US for August 2008. All sales figures in this release are on an unadjusted basis unless otherwise noted.

Mercedes-Benz USA reported August sales of 18,507 new vehicles, bringing the year-to-date total to 158,519, a .5 percent increase over 2007 year-to-date sales.

Sales for the smart fortwo remain strong with deliveries totaling 2,420 or the month of August. This brings the year-to-date total to an incredible 16,378 units in a just over seven months of being offered in the U.S. market. The vehicle is attracting an overwhelming number of buyers who

I guess their year-end sales events didn't help them curb losses.

Are you serious? did you miss their 28% drop last month? Even with their year end clearance they ended up at a 9.1% drop this month. Mercedes by contrast bested that same figure in increases last month

Michael, with the recession in the US i'm not surprised a lot of sales dropped especially in the high end brands.

But you don't look at the big picture, all you say in your eyes is LEXUS which isn't the world of cars. I hope you don't call yourself an enthusiast.

This is the first month that MB doesn't appear to be so "old-money-invincible"

Smart seems like a great car, until you consider how many "big" SUV's are on the road in the USA.
It's hard to drive such a small car knowing how bad American drivers are...

Other than being able to park just about anywhere I dont see the appeal...the gas mileage is no different than most sub-compact cars.

except C class all others are down. Not good for MB seeing they launched so many new/refresh models.

Nice job with the C, but MB should find something to take the pressure off as well as get rid of rebates.

w209,
Lexus had the highest sales in August. BMW and MB have been offering clearance like specials all year and they still had drops. Lexus is bleeding the slowest because they're not giving cars away.

BMW makes no financing revenue, and now their sales volume has taken its first hit. The Quandts are going to wanat someone's head for this (hopefully Bangles).

The SMART is a good car, but it doesn't deserve its overstated safety measures.

Besides that, congrats.
