Mercedes Benz Top Quality
The return of Mercedes-Benz to its reputation for quality appears to be gathering pace. After the recent successes in the JD Power ratings, a poll for ‘Which?’ magazine in the UK produced great results for the E-Class and C-Class. ‘Which?’ magazine is the UK equivalent of US magazine, ‘Consumer Reports’.

Unfortunately the actual report is subscription only, but Mercedes-Benz UK summarized the findings. The official press release is after the break.

No Mercedes has NOT "always done well throught the past century"!

For the last two decades they most certainly DID NOT deserve their reputation and at times sank so low they were found to be less reliable than Landrover!

Here is a brand that by any account must still prove itself and for now the spot people think Merc holds most certainly belongs to Lexus!

Madiaba.

Im not even going to sugar coat it for you. Youre a straight up hater. Only a Lexus/Toyota fanboy would make such ignorant statements. Two decades??? U mean from 2000-2005? U call that 2 decades? The Mercedes Benzes of the 1990s were amongst the BEST ever made and most solid.

YES we all know they had a slight quality downfall which they admitted to, but this is a speck of dust on a long history of sterling reputation and quality, which is a lot more than Lexus has to say about itself anytime soon.

Mercedes-Benz = Ultimate combination in Luxury, Performance, and Prestige.

Lexus = Luxury, trendy fast aging styling, inferior performance, and Nouveau Prestige "a la Americana"

Ignorance is a terrible thing.

The w124 was a very low quality car. I have a cousin who works in Mercedes Benz head office. At the end of the w124's life the board concluded "Any other brand would never have gotten away with this" Perception is a powerful thing, but fact is fact. MB, since the launch of the w124, has been a substandard vehicle manufacturer.

In 2002, the BRAND was the 4th least reliable on the roads of the USA. The 4th LEAST RELIABLE!!! (DJ Power)

After 20 years of quality domination, if you can not see that Lexus leads where Merc once stood, you are just plain stupid. And the 90's was a down hill period for MB, not an up. 2000-2006 was the low point of a 20 year period. Fact is fact, whether you think I am a hater or not!

The engineers have taken back the company's reigns and told the corner cutting bean counters to go pound sand. The result...better cars and happier customers. Getting the 30 Billion dollar monkey off our back helps too!

The biggest problem with MB starting mid-90's as they engaged BMW in an insane race to populate the vehicles with new, un-proven electronic gadgets. It hurt them both (and Audi too).

Rating a car strictly on how many things DON'T work is stupid ... I could build a pogo-stick that would beat MB & Lexus but you wouldn't want to commute with it.

Similarly, if you rated a car based on the number of features that DO work, MB would be un-matched.

We need a better way to compare cars, or stripped-down econo-boxes will show less defects than a MB or Lexus that has 20x the number of features that can break/fail.

The number of defects alone does NOT indicate the quality of the car.

Much higher quality than the previous generation..I actually deny that the current C class is linked at all to the disgusting previous one..I got inside a C63 the other day and I was amazed..In comparision does anyone remember the previous C55, dont think so..

Bulldogs,

Its not a step down. Sitting inside makes u forget there was a previous model, the w203 which I actually had for 10 months so to me the differences are huge and was an easy comparison

The new C class is such an amazing value. We Americans really don't appreciate Mercedes holding down the prices even though our dollar strength is in the toilet. A 40,000 DOLLAR C300 is about 50,000 EUROS in the home country. Quite the difference!

w209w114, you have real issues. Owning cars in a personal thing just like women not everyone likes the same one. But for you to make such statements only shows that you are a follower not a leader.

What in the world are you talking about? I post from a subjective point of view. Taste is personal choice and I never get into it. Oh well... I could really care less what you think.

I'm not even going to start with Michael "TROLL" Taylor over there with his dumb comments.

Mercedes has turned it around after the 97-2005 run of sub-satisfactory interior fit and finishing(ML). The Mercedes of the 80's were as solid as they come. My father use to own a few of the SEC and even the Diesel models of the S-class. We got hit by a Toyota as it made a left turn. Somehow someway the Toyota bounced off our steel bumper and it found itself on a curb. My baby brother was asleep in his baby chair and didn't feel a thing. If that's not proof of a solid car I don't know what is.

Anyways,

After the introduction of the CLS I found all the quality issues to be obsolete. Everyone bashes a Mercedes because they "hate to love" one. Just show some respect give props for its turn around and move on. My S-Class is very high quality and for those to make judgment on the new C you probably haven't even sat in one to know.
