Just something about those German cars. I bought my wife a 2001 C class and had loads of problems, MBZ took care of them no questions ask but it was discouraging to keep bringing the car back all the time. Then we put a ad in the paper, sold it in 48hrs got top dollar and went looking for another car for her. She test drove everything but said lets try Mercedes again, went to the dealer and got a terrific deal on a 07' 230 sport and in 9 months of driving it so far never been back to the dealer. She says she just feels safer in it and the car drives nicely and looks good.

The new C is coming this year! So yes, they probably are!

And why is that surprising? The IS, A4 and 3 Series continue to sell very well. The C is class-competitive.

The new 2008 C continues to intrigue me -- I think it will improve sales. It's on my shopping list as a potential replacement for my leased A6 Quattro but Mercedes has to convince me that its AWD system is better by describing it in full technical detail in the C brochure.

Who cares which AWD system is "better"? Audi, Mercedes or BMW have equally great AWD systems. The question you should be asking yourself is which of these three fine brands best suits your needs.

replace "Mercedes" with "BMW" in the title of this thread and all the Lexus fans would be pointing out that the figures above actually indicate that sales were down 1.2% from April 2006, all while ignoring the context of the statistics themselves. Instead the article just mentions they're on a "best ever" pace for the year. Where are you, Lexus fans??? I know you're out there, and I know you want to post misinformed opinions! Don't let me down!

Got much of a chip on your shoulder? The monthly Merc sales are down, and the year to date are up. Yet both still trail Lexus and BMW. So what exactly is your point?

A misinformed opinion is one which is lacking in information or facts. And most of the REAL Lexus fans on this site have plenty of facts to back us up. Like the fact every month Lexus outsells Mercedes, and almost every month it outsells BMW. Those are the facts, that's information.

yea but don't forget to say that mercedes nearly doubles the amount of vehicles lexus sells worldwide. what a pitty. it's like winning one game out a seven game series. you have one country now what about the rest. and if the trend keeps flowing the way it does. lexus won't be outselling mercedes for too much longer. their cars are getting just as expensive. not to mention mercedes quality is getting back to usual. lexus fans enjoy it while it last. cuz even in america it won't last long.

Reasonably good comment.

Lexus were designed for the US, hence they appeal to the US. Lexus does not have the flavor of a global brand. A global brand is classified as being first and foremost successful in their homemarket, then overseas.

Lexus is not successful in Japan and they were not even launched in Japan but in North America in 1989. They might be doing good in North America, but globally, they're flopping. Not the makings of a global brand.

1970toyotamarc1970toyotamarc - 5/1/2007 7:16:30 PM
-4 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
Well, I guess I've been schooled. I'ver never heard that before, that MBZ sells more worldwide than Lexus, that Lexus was established originally as a North American brand. This is such headline, groundbreaking news that I need to take a breath to process it.

Gimme a break, trotting out the same arguments month after month. In case you are not following the trends today, these are AMERICAN sales results. Lexus has only recently begun selling in Europe, Japan and other countries. And while sales in those regions continue to grow, it will be some time before the numbers get staggeringly large. But if you doubt that this will happen, then you obviously do not know your history very well.

JRobUSCJRobUSC - 5/1/2007 8:00:26 PM

actually 1970, that's incorrect. Lexus vehicles were sold in Japan for years. You might recognize them better by the brand name they were badged under however -- Toyota. A few years ago Lexus decided they could charge even more money by rebadging as Lexus's the same vehicles they'd already been selling as expensive Toyotas there (the same vehicles they'd been selling as Lexus's in the U.S.). So don't say Lexus "just started" anywhere. They've been around for a while, the rest of the world just doesn't like them all that much.

1970toyotamarc1970toyotamarc - 5/1/2007 8:27:13 PM
-3 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
And based on that logic, those Lexus vehicles sold quite well in Japan. So what's your point? Now that the new Lexus vehicles, as they have been redesigned ,are being introduced to Japan as Lexus models, they are selling quite well. The LS sold 9 times its expected volume upon introduction. So get your facts straight. You're having a hard time with this argument, because you dont have any actual facts, you're just basing your argument on your hatred for Toy/Lex, and hatred clouds rational judgment.

Mercedes does sell more. 1970Toyotamarc, you have to acknowledge this. Mercedes quality is back to the good'ol'days. Lexus IS almost as expensive as their German counterparts. I really love the lexus vehicle line, but I'm still realistic. I'd love to have a new LS460 (or any other Lexus for that matter) but compared to a new S class?!?!?!?! The S-class is SO gangster. (I know, makes me sound like a teenager but for lack of better words)

actually 1970, you're wrong once again, but we;re used to that by now. See, I don't hate Toyota or Lexus, or Infiniti, or Audi, or Mercedes. But when I see someone who doesn't know what they're talking about post BS, I call them on it, and that INCLUDES if they're posting about the brands I just mentioned. In your case, it's always BMW.

And incidentally, when Lexus rebadged those Toyotas in Japan and tried selling them as Lexus models they tanked, completely. I'm glad the LS is doing well over there, I actually like that car and that kind of car NEEDS to be a Lexus. But it's difficult to take vehicles people have been buying for years as Toyotas and suddenly rebadge them and charge more money. And that's what Toyota did. And it failed. Miserably. Lexus does not have the worldwide cachet that BMW, Mercedes, or Audi do. Maybe they'll get there one day, but they're going to have to do more than just rebadge a Toyota to get there in the eyes of the rest of the world.

Of course, I never once claimed that MBZ sells less worldwide. And in fact I do not believe anyone has ever made that claim. As I recall, on May 1, 2007, Autospies reported sales in the US, which is what this thread is about. Now go away with your extraneous information, and stick to the topic. (But no one ever can, can they, because it is too painful to see MBZ get beaten month after month in the number 1 market.)

actually mercedes sell TRIPLE the number of cars lexus does worldwide. lexus is at about 400,000 worldwide (325,000in the US). mercedes is at 1.2 million worldwide (about 275,00 in the US). which also makes mercedes much less dependent on the US market. hence, lexus builds cars specifically designed for US tastes.

Why was I not surprised to see Lexus become the subject of choice in this Mercedes thread?

Someone made the observation that Lexuses are getting more expensive--correct.

Someone also made the observation that Lexus is now a global brand--correct.

Now keep those two facts in mind and also realize that a) Lexus is still the number one-selling brand in North America, b) North America is the largest and most expensive market in the world, c) Lexus is steadily growing worldwide, and d) the majority of the real world could not care any less about which brands the regulars here consider prestigious or not.

But of course I've said all this before. I say it, and people call me arrogant, or a fanboy with "silly dreams of Lexus taking over the world" and whatever else. That's all just not the case. Everything I said is FACT. I personally wouldn't care if Lexus never sold another car outside of North Carolina ever again, I would still buy them.

everything but one -- North America is one of the LEAST expensive markets in the world. Cars cost a lot more in Europe than they do here, and the weak dollar actually makes importing vehicles to the U.S. a lot less profitable than selling them throughout the rest of the world. Which is why companies like Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, and Audi are extremely profitable -- because they are not completely reliant on the U.S.

I just have to say Lexus is a great car but for that money I rather spend it on a German make just for their handling and feel. I own best of both worlds Lexus & MB, love them both for what they offer. They represent in thier own unique way. But as for MB sales, and this is in response to those MB fanboys. For MB being in the game 100 years @ least, you better still have some sort of client base, and its' more so the branding at this point they have been used to hearing/seeing for decades from there 2nd and 3rd becomes styling and performance follows through. As for Lexus they are only in their 2nd decade, but the pace they are at is actually closing in on MB. But on a global stand point MB hold that thrown for now and again that reflects off as to how long MB have been in the game. Lexus on the other hand has a long way ahead of them, but closing in on MB faster than you think. It's only a matter of time people, so don't get ahead of yourself that much(to both MB & Lexus lovers!!!-LMAO!!!)
ROUND 3...FLAME-ON continues!!!!
