Mercedes-Benz dropping the R63 AMG

Mercedes management has finally decided to drop one of the most ill-conceived cars of the decade, the utterly useless R63 AMG.

The decision was a no-brainer for the execs, who realized that customers were mainly buying the R-class for its space and comfort, not those after a pseudo sports car/minivan/SUV/whatever.

Its huge price is what kills it as no one would buy it.

Either way this move will be a + for AMG as Merc would think twice of bringing launching AMG for the whole product range.

AMG should be special and be more than just a powerful engine in any merc vehicle.

I honestly don't think it's so much on the price but more on the styling. Generally speaking most AMG's tend to look very good but the R63 was a nightmare. It was a spin off of the Chrysler Pacifica(IMO) and was pointless for Mercedes. Sure it's a very expensive "VAN-LIKE" vehicle and i'm sure many have the money to dish out for something like that.

However nothing justifies paying the hefty price for the R63 but people still have bought them. It's the same that goes for the ML63. I have seen numerous people who bought one. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

The R-class is just stupid. It's ugly, heavy and the interior is really not that good comparing to the current generation of Mercs.

The ordinary R is not selling well so why not drop the R63. I'd like to see a big shakeup in the R's styling department -- they made the side view of the rear quarter on the R totally ugly and counterintuitive. The Q7 beats the R all to hell no matter how you slice it.

fix the front of the car and they will sell. the headlamps are really odd looking. Mold them like the new c class and s class and the car will take on a new hot shape and look
