Mercedes-Benz will introduce a more economical diesel version of the 2012 GLK crossover. Mercedes-Benz USA CEO Ernst Lieb made the confirmation in an interview for Wardsauto. This new model’s engine will be the same 2.2-liter four-cylinder that will be seen on the next generation C-Klasse.

However, Mercedes plans to beef up its diesel powerplant lineup and will reintroduce an oil burner in 2011 that will be added to the existing range that comprises the ML, GL and R-Klasse Bluetecs. Lieb told wardsauto that the Bluetecs range will account for 15% to 20% of total sales.
