Mercedes-Benz to offer REAL C-Class coupe
Mercedes-Benz will be reinventing its entire family of coupes as early as next year and the best part will be a true C-Class coupe instead of the hatchback looking CLC that is currently offered.

According to CAR, starting next year Mercedes-Benz will drop the CLK badge and will offer a E-Class Coupe inspired by the Concept FASCINATION seen at the 2008 Paris Motor Show. The same will go for the CL which will now be called the S-Class Coupe. Both models will be moved up a notch in the lineup along with pricing.

The CLC will be dropped in favor of a...

I liked the idea too. The thought of Mercedes-Benz bringing old school back is a good thought, because that was another one of their pinnacle moments as a company. Not to take anything away from their products in the present of course.

it's a dumb idea. mb going back to their old ways will bring them no sales. lexus is the way to go these days. unchanged model names and rr/bentley/maybach competitors.

Ubernut, aren't Lexus year to date sales down and Merc's still up?

E 320 convertible was better - and it is now increasing in value.

The original W208 CLK was a great looking and masculine coupe, especially with the AMG bodykit.

I don't know why Mercedes made the current (W209) version so feminine and unaggressive. A man driving a current generation CLK is as close to castration as you could get.

You are SO right. The first CLK is still an incredible design, and in fact, I was going to buy a CLK430 before I got my Bimmer.
The W209 is a chick car. While out driving, I saw a guy in an CLK55 AMG (W209). My female passenger saw me checking out the wheels and said, "He doesn't look right in that car." Yikes.

The CLK63 Merc is one helluva beast! I saw it when I was driving through San Francisco, silver on black, one of the sexiest Merc's the company has to offer in my opinion.

No matter how feminine the W209 body may look, I still get a kick out of driving my wife's CLK500.

i loved the original clk, but i prefer the current one. i'm amazed by how many people dislike the current clk, but like the current 3 series coupe. they are quite similarly styled in some areas.

I had two of the orignal CLK Convertibles, a 98 and a 02. Loved them both. I really liked the styling and the interiors. Last year I bought a CLK550 convertible and while I don't like the interior as much I do love the car. Its bigger and the V8 has serious kick. People love to remind me that its based on a C class platform as if its a bad thing. Its still stretched and a bigger car. The C class platform is still pretty good. Platform sharing goes on everywhere. Look at VW and Audi. As far as 3 series comparisons the CLK is closer in class to the 6 series than the 3 series. Very few people who look at 3's also look at CLK's. The price point, the class point and the image compare much better to the 6. When I bought mine I looked at the 6 and the XK both of which where within a stones throw of what I paid for my car.

Okay, so does this mean the CLK was always sized similarly to the E? I always thought it was an E-Class coupe, yet I saw so many people try to compare it to the 3-series coupe and A4/A5...

Can anybody fill me in?

The CLK was (is) based off the C-Class chassis.

The W203 C class platform was stretched for the current CLK. However, it's still shorter than the current E class platform.

w208 clk was based on the c-class platform but i believe used much of the e-class components. take a look at the interiors.

The clk is a cash cow for merc. any person who wants a merc coupe that cant afford a cl gets a clk just cause its a benz. It is based on the c class not the e and it costs merc the same amount to make as the c but they charge you 10-12k more for it. Alot of companies do this and its pretty smart.

I'm sorry Merc fans (including myself)..The C class is and always will be a girly car. Men look funny in it. I expect a man getting out of this car to be wearing a skirt. The AMG has very impressive numbers though. That noone can deny, but I wouldn't be caught dead in a "C". They just look cheap from the interior to the exterior. I do think its smart to have a true coupe. I think it would sale. As long as they don't make it a hatchback like they did last time. Yuck..it was a bad VW Corrado imitation.
