This is the last of the last. Mercedes is stretching out and giving the W209 the most it can to keep up sales before it phases out into the new model. I do like the wheels but cant wait to see the all new version of the car!

Can someone remind me why I would have chosen the similar priced CLK320 or more expensive CLK500 over the E46 M3? In fact, why even choose the much more expensive CLK55 over the M3?? This car is such a girly car it's not even funny.

I own a CLK 550 convertible. Its not a chick car, Showtime you would have chosen a CLK over a e46 M3 because you didn't need such a sports car for a daily driver. Or maybe because you wanted a bigger car than the M3. And lastly because maybe you like Mercedes more than BMW's. Those are my reasons. I chose the CLK over a 645 and an XK for similar reasons.
With that said i am waiting on the new car myself. I am going to trade mine in for a new 550 convertible when it comes out.

I don't believe the CLK is a bigger car than the 3-series but I do get your point on the rest of the stuff you mentioned. I still think the car is too round for me as far as style goes and is definitely overpriced. For a while I thought it was an E-Class Coupe and the pricing would've made sense but considering it's built off the C-Class platform and has 2 doors less, I can' seem to figure out how they came up with a 10K price increase.

Hey Showtime...The current CLK isn't as good looking as the last one. I admit that. I had two of the first cars. Theose were closer in size to the 3. But the current car was designed well before the current, larger 3 series so they may be very similar in size. The CLK is over priced when compared to a 3. When I bought mine I was looking at the 645/650 and the Jaguar XK. Both of which are similar is size and price. People on here love to mention that the CLK is built on the C Class platform, but I believe its extended a little bit and at the least the cars spacce is used much differently and the CLK has better interior materials. So basically its C Class in platform alone. I think MB positions the car a big higher than the 3 series. Remember they do have a c class coupe hatch back thing that they no longer sell in america. I have a feeling that a true c class coupe will be coming soon as a 1 series competitor.

The CLK is not over priced. People who buy Mercedes don't buy on a budget. If you want cheaper pricing go get a Lexus. I know the fan boys will de-boost me but it's ok. But even then Lexus doesn't have a CLK competitor. They have the SC430 which is.....well.. enough said.
I certainly wouldn't think the CLK 63 Black Series is overpriced.

The SC430 gets a bad rap on this site. I have one. It's not as good as an SL, but the car has a very nice interior, the convenience of a folding hardtop, the joy of open-top motoring, nice power, and women absolutely love it! I get lots of stares and plenty of action when i ride around in my SC with the top down on a nice day.
The styling does look odd from some angles, but over all it comes off looking like an expensive and luxurious toy. People who don't know a lot about car prices look at it and assume that it's outrageously expensive (like an SL!) but it's not.
The steering and the brakes aren't that great, and the engine is so silent that it's boring (i also have a chevy impala SS v8, and i like to rev the engine just to hear it howl!)
To make a long story short... poke fun at the SC430 if you like, but it's a great car. The SL may be the better drive, but driving the Lexus with the top down on a hot day will get you all of the same action that a guy in an SL would get. I know from experience, it's a real panty-dropper.

"The SC430 gets a bad rap on this site."
Not just this site, dude...
It is probably the most embarrassing redesign in Lexus's (admittedly short) history.
I respect your decision in buying one, but unless they handed it over to me for $45K, I wouldn't have done the same thing. My S4 was $65K. That's about the same price as an SC. It drives better, looks better, is more spacious, sounds better and the interior is on par with the fancy contrasting piping on the seats and "S4" badging in all the right places.

So it has bad steering, bad brakes, looks ugly from some angles, isn't as good as its competition, you cannot hear the V8 engine and gets panned by reviewers all over the world "but it's a great car" because you can drive around in it with the top down?
Lol, sorry, I respect people's choice of car, but you didn't do a great job selling its merits to us!

It's so sad. The first CLK generation was an iconic vehicle as it was created to be the E-class coupe replacement. Even though it was essentially a C-class coupe.
With the current generation, MB totally blew it with the dull styling--even though I like the pillarless coupe aspect of it. The proportions seem out of place with such a high roofline, which was necessary from a structural standpoint to withstand a rollover. With no b-pillar, they had to make adjustments.
The 3rd gen CLK is really a true c-class coupe. Maybe from a positioning standpoint, that makes sense since MB needs something to counter the 3-series coupe.
Still, I love the looks of the freshman CLK. I came really close to buying a CLK55 AMG and wish now that I would have.

You're exactly right. The first one was perfect. And it was masculine enough that no one would call it a chick car, except Pabst-swilling rednecks who think anything that's not 30 inches in the air is "girly."
Now, the first-gen CLK430s and CLK55 AMGs are classic and can be had at good prices. Just remember to budget at least $5K to make them right.

This CLK looks pretty good, but I would rather have a Lexus SC430 Pebble Beach edition. It blows away any CLK except the CLK63 AMG.

i agree, the 1st gen CLK AMG was an masculine monster, still is, i guess MBZ made the gen more feminine
