Mercedes S-Class Named Best New Luxury Car By Auto Express For Third Consecutive Year
Adding to its already distinguished résumé, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class has once again been named the best new luxury car in the Auto Express "New Car Honours." This marks the third consecutive year the S-Class has won the award, a further testament to the luxury sedan's impressive dominance in its respective segment.

According to Auto Express editor in chief David Johns: "Few cars have reigned over such competitive sectors with such complete authority as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. To many there simply isn’t a better limousine. Beautifully engineered both inside and out, it’s one of those rare cars that is as good to drive as it is to be driven in."

Dermot Kelly, managing director of Mercedes-Benz, added: "The S-Class has been an enduring success with press and customers alike and accounted for one in every four luxury saloon sales last year. We are delighted that Auto Express still recognises S-Class as the best luxury car in the sector."

To learn more about the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and its victory in the Auto Express New Car Honours 2008, you can find the full details in the official press release below.

Enjoy.

*OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE*

Mercedes-Benz S-Class again retains Auto Express New Car Honour as Best Luxury Car

Milton Keynes – The Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been crowned Best Luxury Car at the Auto Express New Car Honours 2008, winning the title for the third consecutive year.

Editor in Chief, David Johns commented that “few cars have reigned over such competitive sectors with such complete authority as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. To many there simply isn’t a better limousine. Beautifully engineered both inside and out, it’s one of those rare cars that is as good to drive as it is to be driven in”.

Dermot Kelly, Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz said: “S-Class has been an enduring success with press and customers alike and accounted for one in every four luxury saloon sales last year. We are delighted that Auto Express still recognises S-Class as the best luxury car in the sector.”

The award-winning S-Class family has been the flagship model by which all others were judged for over 50 years during which it has continued to offer innovative technology, enhanced safety features including Nightview Assist, Brake Assist PLUS and DISTRONIC PLUS as well as supreme comfort for passengers in the spacious cabin and for the driver at the wheel.

As well as epitomising luxury, style and comfort the truly refined S-Class was the first car to achieve the Environmental Certificate from Germany’s influential TUV institute. The certificate not only takes into consideration the emissions of the car when it is on the road, but also overall emissions during the car’s whole life cycle from production, through the recyclable parts at the end of the car’s life, as well as materials used. Mercedes-Benz is still the only automotive manufacturer to have achieved this accolade, now for five of its current models.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is available from £55,885 (S 320 CDI) on the road and can achieve up to 34 mpg on the combined cycle emitting 220 g/km of CO2. As with every Mercedes-Benz model the S-Class comes with a three year, unlimited mileage warranty and is covered by Mobilolife – a unique package comprising 30-year pan-European breakdown assistance.

frankly i'm not surprised. agent63 despite what i said earlier i have crazy respect for the mb s. its the top dog in this industry. beats a8, 7, xj, and ls. my fav brand is lexus but if it wasnt for mb none of these barges would be so high tech and so luxurious. the mb s was the trendsetter back in the day and is still the car everyone has come to respect.

props goes out to mb & much love goes to lexus

S-Class is a work of art. Absolutely beautiful, not as much so as the A8 complex, but damn it's one hot Class.

It's beauty executed differently so I wouldn't say neither is anymore beautiful. The A8 is more conservative while the S is more flashy. The luxury in the S is incomparable but so is Audi's fit and finish; top notch.

I've had my s550 4M since April and its really great. Averages 21MPG mixed city/hwy driving - its beautifully detailed (but not over detailed) on the inside and out.

Its like driving an Armani suit - its a very special car and well-deserving of this honor.

First off, you've never even sat in an LS to argue for the Lexus. Secondly you've never been inside an S-Class so on what grounds are you basing your statement on?

The Mercedes S is as good as you think it is. It's that good. I drive my LS to work everyday and drive my S at night when I go out. The S has an incomparable level of European luxury that Lexus can't compete with. The LS is very good as well but the materials give you a different vibe when you sit in it's cabin.

Both are made with high quality materials but the S is still the winner.

Better "all arounder"? If I didn't want to drive a Mercedes, I would still have numerous selections before I choose Lexus.

Just remember MT, people wish they can drive a Mercedes. People don't dream about a Lexus. (Maybe you) because you drive a Camry and it's not even half way to a Lexus.

I just bought my first Mercedes, Monday; I ditched the Mustang V6 once and for all. I bought a 2005 Mercedes CLK 500. I swear it has to be the only one in the tricounty area. And gets more mpgs to boot.

When I test drove the 335i and xi coupe's, they were definitely fast, but they were just fast cars. I don't know what it was about the Merc, but I was mesmerized.

Just looking at my name you can tell I have a profound love for the BMW 8 series. Since it's not economical trying to maintain an 11+ year old car like the 8(at this time), the CLK was the perfect pillarless B vehicle for me. And honestly, I can't get enough of this car.

Just some specs on the car: 2005 Mercedes CLK500 7speed auto, 5.0L V8 with the AMG appearance pkg. - 18 AMG wheels and front bumper, 2 driving modes, first year the DVD nav was introduced to this car as well as, the 7 speed. This car is incredible. I bought the car offlease(previously owned by a baby boomer) with 34k miles for only $28k and full optioned; an offer no sane person could refuse.

Bimmers are a dime a dozen here. Merc's are few and far between. Fantastic auto.

Mercs are great cars with a proud heritage. They had some issues with quality several years ago but it seems they fixed their production issues. My only criticism is that Mercs. are starting look more and more like Hyundai's. There was a time when Mercs. exuded Germaness, now they are a collection of trite stylistic moves. Audi's are definitely not Mercs, but in my eyes, Audis' are last "German" looking car.

I don't see any Hyundai in Merc's. It's more like the other way around. Lexus once wanted to look like Merc's and so does Hyundai now. It's a way of breaking into the luxury market so it seems.

No, I'm not a F1 driver but I do watch F1. I thought the new Genesis sedan looks more like the Lexus LS in the front and Infinti M35/45 from the back.

HondaJAPAN wtf man you never even been in the s class to judge it like that, I work with the hottest cars on the market , and I have to say when you drive the s class you will think very low of other cars , that fit and finish , that smooth ride with great handling that sound , the whole package it's just pure pleasure , Lexus LS is a very very very nice car , but it's not anywhere near the Benz i really wish you drove 2 car for few days to realise that , it's a great car that brings smile to my face everytime i get a chance to drive it
