Mercedes SLR Gale-force convertibles
Mercedes SLR Roadster and Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet both promise 0-62mph in 3.8 seconds.

Mercedes boldly claims that the Roadster version of the McLaren SLR will have identical performance to the current coupe. That means an astonishing roof-down top speed of 207mph and a 0-62mph time of just 3.8sec, making it the fastest full convertible in series production when it goes on sale in September.

Finding space for the folded roof was always going to be a headache because the SLR is very tightly packaged in coupe form. Although anyone spending in excess of £300K might expect an SL-style folding steel roof, it was impossible to fit one in. Instead Mercedes developed a special fabric roof that retains its structural integrity at high speed but can disappear under an aluminium cover into a shallow cavity created behind the seats. The roof folds away electrically but is not fully automatic – the driver must unlatch it from the screen header before using the button.

Now this is a proper sports car. It's German, it has prestige, history, and so many other intangible senses...

F the Lexus LF-A.

No, even though it's not out yet and we don't know anything about it, everyone knows the LEXUS LF-A will rule the world. It's obviously the most beautiful car on the road, and with quality and reliability, you'll pass by those stupid Audi R8 drivers with their engines on fire! Not only that, but it will be HYBRID, so you'll get 500mpg while going from 0-60mph in 0.6 seconds!

It only costs $80,000, so there's also a lot of VALUE. Everyone wants to save a dime!

LEXUS 4EVER.

See? It's stupid and ignorant fanboys such as yourself that make us German fans hate Lexus. Lexus makes decent cars, but when I come to this site and see so many ignorant independent fanboys ranting about Lexus this and that, I absolutely start hating everything about Lexus.

All Japanese fans should be banned for spewing such nonsense.

Agent009, keep this site in order! Ban all Japanese fans! AutoSpies is a German-only site.

What's wrong with a little sarcasm here and there?

There are German fans with whole different usernames doing the exact same thing in every Toyota and Lexus post...

Will "Now this is a proper sports car. It's German, it has prestige, history, and so many other intangible senses...

Oh really? Hmmmm I could have sworn the car was British and built in the UK at Mclaren's Technology Centre

McLaren Automotive was created in 2003, formally bringing together under one name the companies previously known as McLaren Cars and McLaren Composites.

McLaren Automotive has two sites, one at Portsmouth and the other at the McLaren Technology Centre. The Portsmouth site operates as a world player in the design and manufacture of advanced composites, and is involved in production of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren programme.

The site at the McLaren Technology Centre incorporates the state-of the art production line for the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. Production of the car began in 2003.

So much for your German prestige history crap.

More like McLaren engineered, and powered by Mercedes Benz

As was the McLaren F1 powered by BMW.

Sorry, you don't visit enough to know that Will and S4Cab are being completely tongue in cheek.
