Now that makes sense!

I am not keen on hybrids but if these quoted values are correct MB just blew everyone out of the water with respect to hybrid technology.

And how did it destroy everyone out of the water? with 30mpg? Are you serious?
No one will buy the big ass S class that only makes 224 hps, and there's nothing special about the ML450 making 30mpg.

30mpg in a large suv isn't impressive? i'm happy to get it in a compact sedan.

and that low horsepower figure is paired with gobs of torque.

First off MB has sold the S350 for years, so people do buy lesser S-classes, even here in the states where power rules all. Besides, I'm sure the 412lb-ft of torque that S300 makes will move it just fine, and 44mpg is, oh, about 100% better than what the LS600h gets combined cycle (and incidentally I'm pretty sure that's not the car the S300 is aiming at). And 30mpg for an SUV is awesome, especially for one with 340hp and 350lb-ft of torque. The primary reason I can't wait for my X5 4.4i lease to end is fuel economy, 30mpg would be double what it averages and that ML is more powerful.

The Lexus LS600h destroys it already in the showroom and is faster and gets better fuel economy and has better quality.

I like how the German fanboys are getting all excited. Lexus invented hybrids and according to German fanboys Lexus hybrids suck but now that the Germans are releasing them they are good. Such bias.

Silly, silly man... Hybrid technology was not invented by Lexus (Toyota). This technology was out in 1905, right here in the good ol’ US of A. Toyota wasn’t founded until 1937 and spent most of its early years, wait correct that… its entire life trying to either copy or better products from around the world. Obviously this has worked for them but they are still glorified copy cats nonetheless. Returning to the subject at hand… Toyota simply bought old expired patents and that brings us to today. Yup, you guessed it. Toyota is using old American technology mixed with a little of nowadays know how.

PS. I don’t think you should be banned… I like you. Your silly comments and remarks are part of what keeps me coming back to AutoSpies multiple times a day!!

Toyota has more racing heritage and success than BMW or Mercedes combined. Toyota has always been a leader in technology.

They don't copy like you claim. Stop the hating.

Funny how you didn't address the problem with your first claim... that they (Lexus) invented the Hybrid. In fact Toyota's first stab at hybrid technology came in 1976… But you probably already knew that… No you didn’t what am I saying.

Your fault is that you don’t know much about Toyota history. I am not a “hater” as you claim… It’s no secret how Toyota achieved success… They copied their way to the top, many a times besting the current technology. No different than Hyundai’s story today. Nothing against them either. Toyota has always played it safe by building over the most esteemed cars the industry has created and bringing them back with quality and lower prices (not $o much any more). This is how Toyota got to the top… again, nothing against them… They wanted to get to the top and they Have.

I think we should keep him. He's good for laughs and always manages to crack me up after a hard day at work. Clearly he's not a real Lexus fan but attempts to make certain stereotypes about them reality in his posts.

Hilarious stuff! Please keep him here! He's funny as hell, just like LexusKing and BenzW124. Fakes, but funny.

Lexus nor Toyota invented it! Though they, along with other have worked on improving the circa 1905 technology.

Ferdidand Porsche invented the hybrid in 1901:

"In 1901, while employed at Lohner Coach Factory, Ferdinand Porsche designed the "Mixte", a series-hybrid vehicle based off his earlier "System Lohner-Porsche" electric carriage. The Mixte broke several Austrian speed records, and also won the Exelberg Rally in 1901 with Porsche himself driving. The Mixte used a gasoline engine powering a generator, which in turn powered electric hub motors, with a small battery pack for reliability."

WOW

Same thing when Lexus did with it's luxury cars u ignorants bashed them. And the comments were like this

1)"Lexus didn't invent anything they just perfected the existing technologies"

2)"Lexus just improved upon MB"
3)"Lexus is just born because of MB"

and now u accepted in your comment that MB perfected what Lexus started(Not invented),commercialisng hybrids.

Shame on u

All in all i mean Give credit where credit is due These MB hybrids are just because of Lexus.Even the following Audi,BMW,GM,Porsche...etc hybrids are because of Lexus.

MB just improved upon Lexus(With respect to Hybrids).Fact

S Hybrid came after LS600hL.Fact

Kinger, thanks for that... um:

In 1900 (not 1901) A Belgian carmaker, Pieper, introduced a 3-1/2 horsepower "voiturette" in which the small gasoline engine was mated to an electric motor under the seat. When the car was "cruising," its electric motor was in effect a generator, recharging the batteries. But when the car was climbing a grade, the electric motor, mounted coaxially with the gas engine, gave it a boost. The Pieper patents were used by a Belgium firm, Auto-Mixte, to build commercial vehicles from 1906 to 1912.

I mentioned 1905 American technology for the following fact:
An American engineer named H. Piper filed a patent for a petrol-electric hybrid vehicle. His idea was to use an electric motor to assist an internal-combustion engine, enabling it to achieve 25 mph.

That same year, the Woods Interurban, an electric car that allowed long-distance drivers to swap the electric power unit for a two-cylinder gas engine (supposedly a fifteen-minute job), failed to get more than a handful of customers was around.
This is the Technology that Toyota bought into.

So your fact from 1901 is taken but Wikipedia doesn’t have all the details that you need to make me stand corrected.

that's a hell of a lot of models to put out all at once. and a rather impressive response to consumer demand for better mileage.

Is the S300 Blubrid coming here?!? That would be fantastic! A solution to our problems!

Our problem? My wife loves the S-Class. It's beautiful, so why not? But the mileage is horrendous. I would enjoy an S-Class in our garage, and this S300 would be the perfect solution.

Even better would be an S420 CDI, but they refuse to give us anything other than the gas-guzzler versions. Aren't they trying to go green?

My question is, are any of the high-mileage S's coming to America? I think it's shameful that their most frugal American S-Class model gets 14mpg in the city. SOME PEOPLE DON'T NEED 380HP, like my wife!
