Mercedes debuts advanced camera safety system
Mercedes-Benz this week demonstrated a stereoscopic camera system that functions as an extra set of very sharp, lightning-quick eyes to help keep a look out for hazards.

Using the latest in camera, computer and software technology, the system can pick out details and movements the driver might miss and send a series of escalating alerts to help prevent collisions or other accidents.

The new Mercedes-Benz system can not only recognise stop lights and stop signs, pedestrians, cyclists and other road hazards, but can interpret their distance and course and alter the car’s speed to keep from running through an intersection or colliding with an object.

It's funny how "MichaelTaylor" chose such an Anglo name for himself. His real name is probably unpronounceable to a Westerner.

i think lexus is a great car, but its no mercedes. mercedes has invented every technological advancement in automotive history for the last 100+ years. lexus has done well by copying design elements from mercedes and creating its own niche in the luxury market.

both are great cars, and with that mercedes is the front leader in technology and safety!

Safety hands down goes to Mercedes. They have done great things over the years for the automotive industry for others to imitate. This topic is about Mercedes don't even dare bringing up Lexus. Lexus is definitely no Mercedes. I own both and Lexus is great but it lacks most great aspects of owning a car in that price range. There are wannabee's and there are wannabee's. Surely Lexus was a wannabee rebadging cars before but they have done well for themselves post 2006.

Yeah but If lexus came out with it first you'd say Lexus is the innovator for coming out with it first. Go hang yourself little child. You make me hate lexus!!!!

MichaelTaylor: is as usual rushing to make ignorant and immature comments. If you dislike all auto makers except Lexus, you should just stick to a Lexus website.

May I suggest thepassionatepursuit.com ...that is, if you don't know about it already. I'm a Lexus fan, and that website is just plain awesome.
Now that I've told you that, please stop leaving embarrassing comments showing how desparate you are to make others appreciate Lexus more.

Sincerely,
A greater Lexus fan than MichaelTaylor, but not as stupid, ignorant, embarrassing...blah, blah, blah...

I understand. Sadly, it's very true. Look, when you want people to like Lexus, you don't have to act desparate and all.

As I've said before, I love Lexus. That's why I have a '97 LS w/ the clear headlamps and an '03 LX after the refresh from the '02 model. If I wanted a BMW, I would be more than happy to choose a Bangle design over the older models.

Hey, Michael Tojo, you are ignorant and desperate. Have a problem with that? Deal with it.

I've been waiting for this! I remember reading that MB was going to develop such a system.

Nice.

Isn't this just a stereo camera system? I guess its innovative because a German company took an existing technology and threw it on a car.

The point that the car will modulate its speed is good though, telling a person to do something would more than likely result in too slow a reaction.

The basic function of this safety system came from the LSh's camera. But being able to recognize street signs? That's impressive.
