Mercedes possible answer to the IS-A?
AMG is taking the next logical step in its 40-year history of building high-performance Mercedes derivatives and running successful race teams, by building a completely bespoke supercar.

AMG founder Hans-Werner Aufrecht is getting his chance to prove his company can build a better car than McLaren, and Autocar can bring you an exclusive preview of that car in the shape of our artist’s impression above.

New Super-Benz is go

Mercedes has just given the green light to Aufrecht and his company HWA (a spin-off from AMG itself) to build a supercar, which should be unveiled in concept form at the Geneva motor show next spring.

So far there’s little in the way of solid detail about the car, aside from the fact that it will be powered by a high-performance AMG V8 engine, possibly a new 6.0-litre turbocharged V8. This engine was put on hold but is said to be back in development.

The Mercedes-AMG is also likely to be both more compact and lighter than the SLR, and could use parts from the forthcoming SL Black Series.

Like the CLK Black Series, this car will be re-engineered with bespoke suspension and drivetrain components. Using them in a second model would help spread the considerable cost.

The production version will be built in Affalterbach near Stuttgart, possibly starting in 2009 if the Geneva reception is favourable.

So Mclaren Mercedes and AMG are both going to do seperate supercars? In a sense it is good for two arms of Mercedes to compete agaist one another, because each company has their own strengths and flair for doing things

AMG could really learn a lot from TRD. AMG has been around since what? 1990? Toyota's motorsport heritage dates back to the 1930s so they have more experience at making better racecars in my opinion.

Just to introduce something factual instead of this troll's ranting. AMG was formed in 1967, but officially acquired by Mercedes in 1999. The TRD Division of Toyota Technocraft was formed sometime after the company was in 1954 (can't find an exact date).

Adding "in my opinion" doesn't make that comment any more valid! I'm neither a Merc fan or a Toyota fan - but even I know that what you said doesn't make sense!

David youre a joke. DO some research before making yourself look like a moron. AMG = Heritage TRD= TURD. And you cant polish a TRD. Nobody cares about TRD or thinks of it when they think high performance cars. What comes to mind is a toyota tacoma with a TRD sticker slapped in the back. lol And according to you thats real heritage.

We don't even get TRD in Europe...Toyota has abandoned all of its fast cars, we used to get "T-Sport" models but now they're gone.

I think that for once M-B and BMW are forced to follow Audi and AMG and McLaren both working at it for M-B is a good thing.
But I would like to comment on David, I think David is about 14-15 years old and has big dreams. david, for your information, AMG is celebrating its 40 years birthday this year. So before you make yourself look like a fool, inform yourself.
And comparing TRD to AMG, well, that is part of your dreams and that's okay.

and by the way david as a toy/lexus fanboy, you should know that the first Toyota appeared in 1936, so for TRD to be existing in 1930...LOL

What is an IS-A?

Is that some sort of crossbreed of an IS-F and an LF-A?
