they're not really competitors. A CL coupe is what, $110k? A 650i Coupe, loaded, is $83k and a convertible is $90k. A loaded M6 coupe is $109k and an M6 convertible is $119k. That's a pretty big difference.

Pretty... Though i wonder if this may be more along the lines of what the Ocean Drive will be released as. As much as a 4-door convertible is fun, I don't think we'll see it soon, I could see a CLC though.

It would be a very hard decision between a droptop CL and a droptop Continental GT.

The $100,000 difference might be a deciding factor for most buyers, as hard as that is to believe.

Money is hardly a factor to anyone considering either. Also, thinking about it, Mercedes would most likely make the convertible CL considerably more expensive than its coupe sibling. It's just how Mercedes does.

they're really close in price, in England, about 30k dollars seperates the Cl600 coupe and Contintel GT convertible.

Aargh! I've gone over this contless times!

Look. Some people have limits. When my son gets out of college and my daughter, law school (next year), I'll have a lot of money opening up. I'll be able to indulge in a $100K car.

However, that doesn't mean I'll be able to afford a $200K car! I can get a Carrera Cabriolet, loaded, but there's no chance I'll be able to afford a 911 Turbo in the next few years.

Providing examples to confirm your statements, very good S4. But you are right - most of the people who buy lets say a $45k car won't be able to afford a $80k car. $100k is a good amount. Of course due to very attractive lease offers some people can't even afford to drive the $45k car that they own.

Indeed, the choice between the CLC and the GTC will sure be tough.

I'm weighing this this myself.

A fully loaded CL is about $130K, only $20k less than the Continental GT. And since the Continental GT Convertible MSRP's for around $195, a $150-$170k CLC would be serious competition.

Bring it on.

Won't that cannibalize sales of the SL class?! I don't understand the need of the CLC when the SL is already the leading high-end premium convertible of its class compared to its german rivals.

In order for MB to keep these two from killing each other is to only off the CLC a cloth top. Futhermore, maybe its larger size might be enough for customers to favour it more than the SL.

CLC would be a four-seat, luxury cabriolet.

SL is a two-seat sports car.

Not in a CL! That's one of the roomiest coupes on the planet!

I can even fit adults in the rear seat of my S4, when the top is down or up.

The GTC is roomy - I would suppose the CLC to be the same. I just hope that this is a hard-top convertible, not a soft-top. The South Beach model (S or CL) would be nice, but I prefer power hard-tops despite the added weight.
