Mercedes sells half a million SLK roadsters
Mercedes-Benz has delivered its 500,000th SLK convertible since the entry-level droptop was launched back in 1996 and surprisingly 190,000 of these are the second-generation model, which debuted only in 2004.

The SLK has been runaway success for Mercedes-Benz and has been the market leader for its segment for a number of years.

The compact roadster enjoys the greatest popularity in Germany, with over one-third of all SLK drivers coming from Mercedes’ home market.

Yeah, but over 90% of them are like 4-cylinders, so they're not really luxurious and they're slow. If they managed to sell 500,000 with V6 or V8 engines that would be impressive.

Start bragging when Lexus both:
1) has a model to compete with the SLK
2) has such a model would have the ability to even compete against the SLK, Z4, and TT

Thank you for listening, troll.

actually, if Lexus starts producing cars that complete with SLK, Z4 and TT, it would be game over for those brands. Lethal combination really, sporty good looking coupe/roadsters that don't break down!

auto001,

Thanks for treating us to an example of Fanboyism 101.

I am not a troll. This is most likely a fact that the majority of SLK sales are 4-cylinders.

We could say that the Lexus LS is very successful in Europe because it only sells in V8 / V8-Hybrid variants while its competitors use slow and noisy 4- and 6-cylinder diesels.

Get my point?

A Benz four is definitely better than the injector racket you get out of the toyota V6.

1)there's nothing keeping them from making one, it's not like the SLK does anything great to begin with. It's a capable 2-seat roadster, nothing more.

2)see #1. Lexus makes a decent to good competitor in almost every class. Every lux company has it's flaws, there is no one company that does EVERYTHING right.

ok why did lexus even come into this discussion? do you people do this on purpose or something just to argue?

90% of SLKs are not 4 cylinders - there's only 1 four cylinder model, the SLK 200k, which has about 190 hp. There are 2 six cylinders (280 and 350) and the 55 amg.

I LOVE my SLK. Plain and simple its a great car and it does everything its supposed to just fine while serving as a formidable competitor in its segment.

To the Mercedes haters on Autospies I say this: "Drive one and then talk to me about it"

Sadly 90% of the people here bashing have A. Never driven one or B. Cant afford one

SLK is a nice car, as well as CLK, SLs... love that "Airscarf" feature.
