And yet not ONE Merc that ever came out of that factory had the typical Benz quality. Not one!

The new generation ML and GL and R-Klassen do. Mercedes invested a lot of money into improving production and quality standards and workforce training.

ErichHartmann, then please be a hero and instruct your superiors to return to body-on-frame construction for the M and to make it a little lower in height and give it an in-line 6-cylinder diesel instead of an inherently out-of-balance 90-degree V6.

"Almost half of the vehicles that rolled off the production line in last year were equipped with a V6 or V8 diesel engine"
Half of all R class, GL and MLs built last year were diesel, and:
"In the M-Class, the worldwide share of diesel-powered vehicles rose in 2006 to the record level of over 50 percent for the first time."

The quality may be "improved" over the first generation ML, but even the most current generation ML has customer satisfaction issues compared to other luxury rivals. However, it is a good sign they are improving, but they still have a ways to go.

"Trust me, I work for M-B." Boy that sets off red flags. I sold M-B's for 15 years and was told to trust that M-B quality would be second to none this year--it got worse year after year until I couldn't stomach selling them any longer. The past three-and-a-half years in the software industry has been bliss by comparison.
My friends who remained tell me the quality has actually gotten better in the past few model years, but nothing to write home about.

The M Class has definitely improved quality. They are up to the levels that are expected from a Mercedes Benz. Actually MB overall has improved. Even the luxurious S-Class and CL-Class that was superb is now even better. So much credit given to the company to turn things around after the years of doubt.

M-B Quality? I just bought a new 2007 E550...after 187 total miles I'm already having transmission problems AND also ESP failures. The car has been at the dealer for 4 days so far. I'm just counting the days to invoke the Lemon Law.
