Mercedes working on 300 SL successor
Mercedes is working on a spiritual successor to the 300 SL Gullwing, one of the most revered cars in history. Priced between €140,000 and €200,000, the mega-Merc will be built on a shortened SL platform and is codenamed W198. Unlike the Mercedes-McLaren SLR, which was deemed to be a failure, the W198 will be built internally by Mercedes and AMG and the company expects to sell 3000-5000 units per year, according to a report from Germany’s Auto Motor Und Sport.
It’s expected the venerable 6.2L AMG V8 will once again make an appearance, this time developing close to 620hp.

Now, that is one of the greatest automotive Icons in history. They are amazing to see in person.
I can't wait to see how MB reinterprets this classic.

"shortened SL platform"
All this sounds like a new SLK AMG version. Isn't the SLK essentially already a 300SL successor? A small and light roadster with incredible performance is already what the SLK is!

I would say the SLK is the 190SL's successor. The 300SL started all SL's but no longer are they what their name implies nor are they the super car they once were. So, it makes sense to build a proper 300SL successor.

Well, I guess the current SL would be the REAL successor to the old SL, but I can see where they're coming from... (-;
