Mercury Appears To Be The Next Cost Cutting Casualty For Ford
Although Ford officials still won't confirm the impending death of Mercury, supplier sources tell Inside Line that the midlevel luxury brand has no products planned after the 2012 model year.

The last model standing is likely to be the Milan midsize sedan as it will get a midcycle refresh early next year along with the Ford Fusion. Other models like the Sable, Grand Marquis and recently refreshed Mariner will continue until roughly the 2011/2012 model year as well.

Good Riddens... They haven't made anything worth looking at since the Marauder.

Well, I have to agree on one point DexD: I wrote Ford a nasty letter when they discontinued the DOHC V8 Marauder engine. and now I see that Lincoln/Mercury no longer offer V8 cars, period. I started getting pissed at Mercury when they abandoned the traditional Mercury logo in favor of some modernistic piece of crap with three bent lines that don't mean anything. At least Cadillac had the good sense to offer the fuel-efficient Northstar V8 in vehicles like the DTS and SRX -- I don't know what the guys at Ford are smoking these days but it sure ain't helping the company to survive.

Olds was always perceived to be GM's technology division (good marketing) and they killed it. Now GM appears to be letting Buick flush down the toilet by being late with a RWD Lucerne or equivalent. The Enclave is nice also but I bang my head on the roof when getting in and out of the Enclave's front passenger seat. When is the industry going to learn that both power font seats must have identical adjustments and features, especially for height.

Too bad, they could have done some nice things if they kept the Cougar.

Yeah, the Cougar was an exceptional value for the money around 1999. My daughter was going to buy a Neon but I surprised her with a new Cougar and she loved it.

Hopefully this means Ford models will go a bit more upscale to make up for the loss. I always liked the Mercury models more compared to their Ford counterpart.

Can't necessarily recoup losses by moving upscale as sales are inversely proportional to price and exponentially so as you get to really lofty price levels. Ford is better off to sell high quality Lincolns at Mercury prices.

Mercury has been doomed since the days of cloning... I am surprised it is still around to be honest. The only non-Ford product they had was the Capri that was built in the 90's.... it has been nothing but badged engineered cars since.

I agree. I guess it was a matter of time.
