Michelin designing tires that last twice as long as normal
Tires are often overlooked when it comes to upgrading a car’s performance but even the most powerful car is only as good as the rubber it’s wearing. Tires can also dramatically affect a car’s mileage and according to Michelin’s own studies 20% of the energy consumed by a car comes from tire rolling resistance alone.

That’s why the tire manufacturer is concentrating its efforts on reducing rolling resistance by up to 50%, while at the same time improving tire life and cutting down on braking distances.

The original Michelins on my leased Audi A6 Quattro only lasted about 25,000 miles so you did better than I; however i am royally pissed off at Michelin because they stopped making that particular tire and I had to buy 4 new Pirellis that just happened to give me the same revolutions per mile as the original Michelins. Nothing wrong with Pirelli but I now have an odd spare that has never touched the road except for purposes of facilitating tire rotation which I prefer to do myself so I can be sure that the wheel bolts are torqued up properly.

^^
So?
Your unhappy with Michelin because you bought a set of tires that are the same size you use to have with the Michelin. And you never used your spare?

It looks to me like a cause for celebration!

So this means they'll last to almost a normal amount of mileage??

I don't care any more -- I intend to buy some Kevlar-belted Goodyears next time.

Anything under a 50 series tire doesnt last long at all...I expect between 10-15k on my tires. Good all seasons, on a small rim (15") should be able to go 40-50k easily.

Exactly. I run 235/45-17s and have only gotten btw 20 and 30K per set. Awesome for Michelin if they can do it but it's gonna be an expensive arse tire.

I've had Contintental contisportcontact, Yokohama avs sport, GoodYear Eagle F1, Bridgestone RE050A. From my experience, the continentals are my favorite. They lasted 40K miles driven hard and was very satisfied with their performance.
