Mini’s CO2 emissions will match those of the Toyota Prius
Starting from August, Mini will provide stop-start and regenerative braking on all its cars with manual transmissions. With this move, the diesel-powered Mini Cooper’s CO2 emissions will match those of the Toyota Prius, currently the “cleanest” car available. Read Article

Why would you want to lug around all those heavy hybrid batteries which slow acceleration and cost a fortune to replace? I would not want to drive across the Rockies in a hybrid.

Ricemaster, you really are a childish bigot arent you. Open your dam eyes to what you read. BMW is again pioneering another option to the fuel dependence issue.

Hybrid is not the answer. The technology that comes AFTER hybrid is the answer, and will incorporate many of the technologies that are being researched right now. Regenerative braking, hydrogen, hybrid-diesel, etc.

Honestly Ricemaster, pull your head out of your ass.

By the way, ALL car companies are researching something--I did not mean for my post to sound like it was just BMW trying its hand at the fuel dependence issue.

Its the technology after the technology after the hybrid that is the answer.

Just think if BMW made a hybrid of the mini then it would be way low of 100 g. The cleanest hybrid in the world.

A full hybrid would make it too heavy because of the silly batteries. And therefore spoiling the driving pleasure.

The Mini would never be able to take on a full hybrid system because it is too small. I don't think many people even realize how much smaller a Mini is than a Prius. The Mini has to be the smallest car available for sale in the U.S..

Unfortunately Ricemaster hasn't realized that America is the only country in the world that has been fooled by the hype that surrounds the Prius. Prius is nothing more that a scam to help put Toyota in limelight. New generation German and even Japanese diesels are reaching the same kind of economy levels and still drive and look like proper cars and they don't cost a fortune to buy or maintain.

Unfortunately AutoUnion hasnt realized that Chevy, Ford, GM, Volkswage, BMW, Porsche, Nissan, Mercedes, Honda (...should I go on?) all are developing hybrids, not just for sale in America. So I guess everyone except AutoUnion is in on the scam. (....sound of crickets chirping.....Is it lonely out there?)

AutoUnion, you hit the nail right on the head. Exactly where I'm coming from. A diesel is on my shopping list for the very reason you state.
