Mitsubishi releases specifications for new Lancer Evolution (EVO X)
Mitsubishi has released specifications for the Lancer Evolution (EVO X). The curb weight is given as 3517 lbs for the version with the 5-spd manual (GSR), and for the MR version, with the 6-spd dual-clutch TC-SST transmission, the curb weight is given as 3594 lbs. The peak power occurs at 6,500 rpm (291 hp), and 86% of the peak power is availble at only 4,400 rpm, which is the location of the torque peak (300 lb-ft). Its highway passing ability may not satisfy die hard street racers, but few people should find a reason to complain about the way that it will likely pull away from stop lights.

In my honest opinion, Mitsubishi has killed the Evo. They've gotten rid of most of the Boy-Racer looks, and they've made the fell of it more grown up. Mainly through only offering the paddle-shift with the MR and the 5-speed in the GSR.

No, sadly it has put on nearly 500lbs :(

If I remember correctly the Evo 9 was just under 3100. That extra weight, I fear, will have a bigger impact on the sharpness of that cars handling than any of the new gadgets or tech they stuff it with. Weight is a real killer of performance.

Why would the EVO outperform the 135i if they weigh the same, the 1 is smaller and it has more power? That's simple math. The EVO has been awesome in the past, and it looks great now, but I think the BMW will drive better. At a price.

I think weight is the single most important factor in performance, but also in fuel efficiency. Think of how much better the world would be if all cars were made of aluminum and carbon fiber. Yes, they would be more expensive but they would all probably weigh 1000lbs less.

S4, gearing is an important factor in straightline performance as well, not just weight and power.

But I agree with the weight sentiments. It is just too heavy at 3500lbs and with more of the weight up front, that just ruins the driving experience even more, no matter how advanced the electronics are.

It depends how you evaluate "driving experience". I personally cannot take the initial understeer of 4WD, no matter how you can power exit the corner.

I'd rather have Lotus or tuned up Miata when it comes to "experience". RWD is the ultimate testament.

EVO over 135i anyday. As it's a proven sportscar, racing history, more practicle, looks and drive better, nearly equally loaded/optioned...etc

Aren't those the exact things you argue against? History/prestige etc?

It won't be $40,000. Not even close. $35K at the absolute highest.

Wow! 3500 lbs for a 4-cylinder car. That's heavy. That has got to be the heaviest 4-cylinder car in existence.

I agree that the car will cost around $35,000. But it's just too much for a 4 badger, heavy car.

I personally don't like what mitsubishi and subaru have done to the new evo and sti.

i own a 2005 STi and i just love it. with the 08 model, i think subaru has lost perspective of what kind of car the sti is supposed to be.

so s4 u have any doubt that EVO has way more racing success than an all new BMW, 135i.

I argue when one choose a car over the other just because it's has more history. Sure good history/recent success counts but alone it's not a selling point.

Like i said i'll choose EVO because it's got more racing history/success and more practicle (4 door and good boot space) and drives better......

291hp 4 cylinder turbo Mitsubishi econobox(slower than the previous generation) vs 300hp 6 cylinder twin-turbo BMW luxury coupe that blows the doors off the slow a** new Evo. Tough choice(sarcasm).

Star,

I think Evo X would still be faster than the BMW.
BMW would probably smoked it's inside rear tire on
every corner exit.

Cheapass BMW, why would you put a open diff on a 300hp
RWD "sports" car?

2 different cars competing in 2 different segments. that you need to keep in mind. also, mitsubishi provides the turbo that is in the 335i and upcoming 135i.

Evo IX MR is about 3285lbs... still good 300lb less
than the X MR.
