I hooked up my accelerator to my brake lights. I hit the gas, people behind me stop, and I'm gone.

More images and details on 2009 Toyota Avensis
Toyota will be showing the 2009 Toyota Avensis next month at the 2008 Paris Motor Show - but in the mean time it keeps releasing little details and a couple of pictures here and there. Today we see the front of the 2009 Toyota Avensis sedan and a side-profile of the Toyota Avensis Tourer (station wagon).

The third-generation of the Avensis was designed at ED2, Toyota’s design studio in France. Toyota says that active and passive safety standards are taken to a higher level with new safety features like Steering-assist Vehicle Stability Control (VSC+), Adaptive Front Light System (AFS) and Pre-Crash Safety System (PCS).

No powertrain details are available as of yet but Toyota says that the engines will be both more powerful and more fuel-efficient.

I wish they'd bring that to the states.
It's much more stylish than the Avalon, and has much more of the design cues of the American Toyota's also.

Those wheels look straight off a GS300 though.

They should keep this in Europe and let them have the Avalon as well.

The sedan reminds me of a Corolla and IS while the wagon has some glimmer of a Mazda CX7 at the rear. Seems like a mash of designs cues from other cars all in one...not always a good thing. Way to go Toyota, another boring design.

Toyota design has become what GM design became in the 1970s and 80s -- decent-looking, but nothing groundbreaking or avant-garde. This car belongs in the "so what?" category. It looks like everything else they make.

There's nothing decent looking about this thing. On the ugly scale, it's a Yaris x 10.

Get rid of the emblem on the steering wheel and replace it with a Volvo and nobody would know

the first photo looked good (rear 3/4)

the front is terrible, the steering wheel looks cheap and so does the fake wood as well.

a big letdown after the pretty good looking rear/side

the wagon looks nice from the side, but the front is likely the same

First.......... this is ugly. Second. They designed every part of it basically based of off other car companies. Examples: a Volvo sedan, Lancer, Honda civic, Nissan sentra, Mazda tailights (i think), and threw in some ugly Nissan and 5 Series mix lights. One of the ugliest cars I've seen. Also, I looked at the hatchback.. It looks like a frikin Pontiac. Toyota really kept with their own designs ;)

If the Honda Civic and the VW Passat had a lovechild this is what you'd get.

The Avensis is smaller than the Camry, this beast could never replace the Avalon - which latter is far better looking anyhow IMO.

This could be the car filling the gap (if any) between the Corolla and the Camry. However, hauling a family of four adults is not possible in the current generation - I know I rented one in Germany with co-workers and had to switch to a VW Passat on the second day as the back seat occupants were screaming.

Shouldn't Michael Troll Taylor be around these threads? I'm surprised he's not here to comment.

Maybe this will spark something:

I think this car is the ugliest thing Toyota has ever made besides the SC430.

=P. Lets see if it catches.

We will get this stateside when the Avalon is finally redesigned. Maybe not with all those features, but surely it will resemble this as it has a mix between new Corolla and Camry lines.

I like it...it will sell well in the US with the gas price still hovering around $3.50/gal.

If it'll get 30mpg in town, it's a steal.
