just as i predicted: bmw and merc are running for cover now. They need to start pumping up hp b/c its the only thing they really have left now.

low volume w/ crap load of hp to stay afloat for next few years..tsk tsk tsk.

How do you propose that low volume will keep Mercedes afloat?

Last time I checked, such limited-run projects like the SL 65 Black Series were bankrolled by the sucess of their volume sellers, C-Class et al.

I'm waiting for Mercedes to dump torque converters and embrace the dual-clutch technology. Now I'm not just spouting banter. I have driven the E63 with the 7G-Tronic 'box, it drives well in auto and sport modes, it even blips the throttle on downshifts in full manual mode; but you can still tell the torque converter is present. For you haters out there you can't say dual-clutch 'boxes can't handle the torque that AMG engine dish out. Ricardo engineered one to handle the 900ft-lbs of torque that the Veyron rips out. So...... what then?

The Veyron's gearbox probably costs as much as this entire car. That's why it will be some time before you see cars with this kind of torque with Double clutch gearboxes.

Saw the face lift standard SL for the first time yesterday, must say. It does look good. So can't wait for this bad boy.

Enjoy it whilst it last guys: unless the environMENTALists actually are exposed for the morons they are, cars like this will become a dying breed in a world aiming for low CO2 emissions and better than 25 mpg averages.
