More revealing shots of Lexus LF-A supercar
Photos of the engine of Lexus’ upcoming halo model, the LF-A, have been snapped by photographers as the car competed over the weekend at the Nurburgring 24 hour endurance challenge in Germany.
During a pit stop engineers opened up the hood and also changed the tires, giving us full view of the engine bay and brake assembly.
Lexus is yet to reveal any specs for the car but most suggest it will be a high-rev 5.0L V10 with at least 500hp on tap.

I've come to realize on this site that anything that encroaches on established marques (i.e. European) gets ripped to shreds here, especially Lexus. No matter what strategy they take they get criticized.
Lower price/high value strategy: cheap, bargain, not really luxury, they work their people to death, etc.
Higher price strategy: not worth it, could never compete with, bla bla bla.
So much pre-judging on this car it's scary. Why don't we wait until it actually comes out. Remember all the negative comments about the GT-R before it came out?
Many people automatically hate anything that shakes their world view, especially if it comes from a place they no little or nothing about.

"Remember all the negative comments about the GT-R before it came out?"
- Yeah that's true. But the GT-R never had a proposed price of $225K. At that price the scrutiny is increased heavily. Especially for a brand that has never made that type of vehicle before.
Its a bold step for Lexus. They still have yet to surpass BMW when it comes to driving dynamics. I'm not sure how they will be able to compete with Ferrari. We'll see.

How long have you been on this site? The GT-R was continuously trashed here before it was launched.
"why people have to like this thing or any other car or their wrong.......is baffling to me it's ok to not like this thing, or any other car stop wining"
Yeah, but when it's consistently the same people showing an irrational hatred towards cars from a certain area, you have to raise an eyebrow.

MichaelTaylor:
"Look at the flops from Mercedes (R class, CL class and C sportcoupe) and BMW (1 series, X6) for example. There is no flop in the Lexus lineup. There is a market for the LF-A. Mark my words."
How are the CL's, 1-Series & X6 flops already when they came out not too long ago. Lexus is no flop because all they have been offering have been mainly sedans!. The SC400(SOARER) and SC430 are sports cars? not even close. The LF-A will be built well and I'm sure pack some punch but it's still got to face reality and realize it's competition is still there.
You base your judgments on the US Market but not worldwide. I just hope the LF-A is better than the SC430(which I'm sure it is). In that case the LF-A is a good proposition.
However you're claims that Lexus is at the top of chain is incorrect and purely you're opinion.
By the way what Lexus do you own?

I could not agree more with 43LE. For year now people have bagged Lexus without foundation. From experience it is because they cannot think outside the box and follow the pack to buy a BMW. Regardless of which car you own enjoy as it a personal thing. Remember this in Australia wankers or real estate agents (one of the thing) love BMW'S, one reason not to buy one.

I disagree. If you take the time to read peoples' comments and understand it in context with all of their other comments it will be obvious.
P.S. It's not whining, it's a simple observation of the double standard that many here have here on autospies, does that include you?

And for any body that is thinking of saying the LF-A did bad at the 24hrs Nurburgring event. it wasn't thear to race but to help the testing. Because we al know that the standaard LF-A did a 7:24 on the ring.

I'm sure this is an impressive car, but I can't love it! It is just (and I know I'm going to get flamed for this) to japanese! To many chefs! It reminds me of the Mitsubishi 3000GT... They really tried... And they really had a nice recipe, but they still failed! There is no overall design here! It's a bit of a Frankenstein's monster. A lot of design elements that each in their own right are very nice, but put them together and it just doesn't work! It looks like some 13-year-old's wet dream... Unfortunately, 13-year-olds seldom have 200k+ to blow on a car...

I don't like the interior. Red switches are so ricer. Not to mention the net around the window. What kind of high tech security is that? From a $225k car? Not even a cup holder! And the engine is so drab and ugly. It's like this car was created for testing or something. Ferrari engines look 10 times better!

With a " rIPPP oFFffFF " price tag as much as 200K + people who were " and still " whining about how the LF-A will beat the GT-R got a shock after revealing the price,. It may be easy to crack but I don't think it caters to the same markets as it's rivals. Buyers of GT-R's, NSX's, and LF-A probably was the import tuners of the 90's. Of course there will be some seniors who will buy because this won't be as hard and intimidating to drive compared to a German or Italian car. It'll be more tamed and more luxury based as the SL. Mind you, being a direct competition with the SL isn't a bad thing. The SL's beautiful, comfortable, and luxurious. I expect the same from the LF-A. Anything is better than that turtle of a car who people call the SC430.

EL34,
I believe the chumps belong to BMW. Who releases a last generation car to undercut their own current generation 3-series?
Everything in their lineup is an oxymoron and the sheep still flock to it because they just gotta have that propellor to show-off their potency (or lack of).
What bugs everybody is that Lexus will price it, and plenty of people will buy it because it's not another ho-hum rebadged yuppy German car.

in any GIVEN locale, THE MARKET sets the price (not mere exchange rates), determined by the number of potential buyers accepting or rejecting asking prices. for ANY product in high demand and limited supply, sellers can and do ask for whatever the market will bear.
if demand stays ahead of production (as happened with the toyota prius for a few YEARS, and the initial run of ls600hl which sold at 3x the projected rate) they very likely WILL GET a buyer for every single car they make. in which case, kudos to them!
as mentioned above, being made of carbon fiber, more than a few buyers will feel the car IS A BARGAIN at a mere $225k.
the car winning its class at the last Nurburgring race also ESTABLISHES its cred.
and, the mere fact that it will be MORE EXCLUSIVE than ferraris and lambos for many years will itself attract certain buyers. as with RR customers, PRICE WILL BE NO OBJECT for these kind of buyers. and again, a 'mere' $225k WILL seem a true bargain!
people who've criticized the genius of toyota and lexus MARKETING (yes! but based on good analyses) have A HISTORY of later having to eat their words.

The IS-F is the SLOWEST CAR IN ITS CLASS. Slower than last-gen RS4, slower than M3 and slower than C63 AMG.
The LF-A will do 0-60 in the 3 second range, not under.

A word about the price.
Months back I argued that many high end MB AMG models include a 'markup' in their price just because people will pay anything for them. I was wrong, as pointed out by many MB fans on the site, because it was the engineering, materials, etc. that drove up the price of the high end benzs.
With the LF-A, you have a car that has spent years in R&D ($$$) and will likely have plenty of carbon fiber, and use a rare, costly engine for Toyota to develop. The interior will also have to be top notch and have expensive materials to get the cred Lexus is looking for.
All this translates into a high price. You may think their 'crazy' for charging this much, however, if they're going to build it, knowing Toyota, the books must balance.

I would think that anyone who is into any of the exotic cars who can buy them probably has a collection of cars anyway why wouldnt they buy an LF-A just to have one of these too. It doesnt have to be better, just different, and if it has some interesting or even mind bending advancements... then even better. This car will be considered a success no matter what simply because they will only build what they know they can sell.
