Rising sales in its Eastern and Central regions may soon see Europe emerge as the world’s largest car market, surpassing the U.

S. possibly by the end of the year. The U.S. has traditionally led Europe by a wide margin but sales numbers so far the year differ by only several thousand units.

Sales for the first ten months of the year stood at 13,583,559 for the U.S. and 13,572,669 for Europe. Compare this with last year, where sales in the U.S. topped out at 15,599,970, a lead of 740,000 over Europe.

And with Audi doing so well in Europe, as well as the dollar getting weaker constantly, no wonder they are not too fussed with wasting money on Marketing in the USA.

A friend of mine who works for Audi UK told me they are practically making a loss on the Q7s in NA.

Europe doesn't have a population of 700 million - I'm sure it's around 400-450 million.
And much of that population is still recovering from communism, so it's taken a while for sales to increase.

I have to admit that figure isn't for all of Europe-it is only for the EU. So, it does not include Russia at all. I think you are thinking of the EU population when you say 400 million. Shows how much attention I pay.
That is only for the 27 EU mmember countries.

In 2005 The United Nations estimated the total population of Europe to be: 728 Million.

As other areas of the world progress (China is moving at the fastest rate) they will come to, or surpass 'figures/numbers/statistics' set by the US. This is due largely to the fact that they have MORE people. Now that the infastructure, distribution of wealth, resources, etc. has leveled the playing field in these countries, they are sure to catch up.

We already covered the population part, maybe you should go back to history class, anyways whatever.
As for the most of the population is recovering from communis part, your still comparing a continent that has double the population of a country, actually more than double if you remove the 50 or so million mexicans. So better luck next time buddy.

Everyday I walk past a map of Europe with some stats, one of which is population. It says 490-ish million...but on closer inspection it is an Eu map.

And yes, a lot of that population is still recovering from Communism...100 million Russians, 48 million Ukrainians, 10 million Belorussians, 38 million Poles, 5 million Moldavians, 10 million Serbians, 7 million Bulgarians (Already that's 250 million ex-communists, never mind Albania, Macedonia, Lithuania, Estonia etc)....it goes on. All the old Eastern Bloc is still mainly horrendously poor, they can't afford cars, which is why American has been leading in this respect, but now, the poor are getting richer, which is why Europe will lead soon.
Also the fact that Europe now includes Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and a part of Kazakhstan for some bizarre reason.

I don't understand what you mean...do you think we're competing??? I was simply explaining why it had taken so long for Europe to catch up.

Europe is on decline and the U.S isincreasingly dominant. The fact is, the EU's population will decline to 435 million by 2100 while the U.S.'s will increase to 500 million. The U.S. GDP per capita is about $41,000 adjusted for purchasing power while the EU's is $21,000. The EU has on average much larger national debt from all sources per capita as well.
